It's in a slip at the state marina. I need a tender or rowboat to get to it. They're going to be spending millions back there in a plan to move DEC marine division HQ there. The target to start is 2020. There are a few boats moored back there but for decades there were lobster boats in there. Kinda sad.

you're in a slip and till need a tender to get to it?

As I said to Dom recently:
I've wanted a boat for like 25 years. Reached 65 & figured now or never. Should have been never. Hd I remained in NY I would probably not be selling it.

I've never operated a boat before.
I don't know the waters at all.
Don't know where the fish are to be found.
Don't know where I can go & where i shouldn't.
By the time I figure that all out - I'll be in my 70's.

Took the required VA boating course.
Set sail in what appeared to be a well marked channel.
It took a little turn & the water level went from 24 to 15 to 6 to 2 & I was hitting bottom in seconds.

All of the above began to make me too nervous to enjoy her.

I have a brother in law who bought a boat a few years ago. Never operated a boat, does not know where (or how:rolleyes:) to fish. His second trip he was attempting to navigate a channel and banged up his prop and lower unit pretty bad. Connecticut has a more rocks than sand!

He got it repaired and kept at it. He was unable to dock the boat, put a nasty gouge in her. He finally asked me to come up and show him some boat operating skills. I am no expert, but I've been operating boats since I was about 8-10 years old. Showed him the most important thing. RELAX, and don't over steer.

He is doing much better, but still does not know how to fish. :p Don't give up so easily. Take a few head boats, hire a local for a few hours here and there to learn the ins and outs. One is only too old for something only when they are dead.

My ride when I bought her, ( about 4 years ago) and after some modifications.

:D:D

did the canoe thing on the Nissequogue for about 10 years............

No way I'd take a canoe out into the Chesapeake - have you actually seen the size of it? The bridge you cross to reach the mainland is over 20 miles long & that's the narrow part.

You say you don't know the waters, but if I had fins and stripes, you just showed everyone where I'd be hanging out...

I still think you should keep her and at least try fishing the spring run. Go out on dead calm days and stay in the deepest water as you build a sense of confidence.

Yea, kinda sucks, but for me it beats trailering. You can see in the picture I can almost jump to it. First night back we needed to use one of the provided fiberglass boats to row across. Let's just say those boats aren't made for 3 people

Wow! I hope you got a killer price to go through that kind of stuff! I would just go somewhere close with better access that I could just drive to.

It's not that bad. 90% of the time there's someone sitting in the tender waiting to take me over. It is run by the state, so they can afford it :) It's $50 a foot.

One last point, old luck finding a slip on the north shore of Long Island. This is 5 minutes from my home.

$50 a foot???!?!?!??!

per month?

my slip (which is for a boat up to 24 feet) is $100 a month

You should have put your name on the town marina list when you were in elementary school. You would probably only have a few years left to wait!

When they build the new marina are you guaranteed a slip? Will the rates skyrocket?

There is (only) one other option in town, probably 10-15 minutes from you now. Costs are very reasonable. ;)
