Kind of a Big Deal - In My Mind Anyway
Staff member
Hiya Guys - First, thanks for stopping by! For those that know who I am and what I've been about for the past 18+ years, what follows is a bit of background about NYAngler.com and my new home here. For those that have never read my stuff, well stick around if you like to chat up specific tackle choices as well as catching our local inshore species - I may be able to help a bit with those subjects. There'll be plenty of content on those subjects here. And hey, I like to learn new things as well, so don't be shy, post up!

Anyway, I've been speaking with George off and on for a while, about his intention to launch a new fishing website, with updates to the creaky old format that other, older sites use. Most of you know that George was one of the first, if not THE first to run a web-based fishing post board - tied to a printed weekly publication.

After George sold his old site to a website-accumulating conglomerate several years ago, that site seemed to suffer a slow downward spiral. To cap it off they recently "terminated" me, that's the actual word they used (can you imagine - what the heck were they thinking?), along with a bunch of other mods over there - leaving me free to join George once again, with this new venture. The best possible outcome!

George has some solid ideas about winning a good part of his viewership back from whence it strayed - Face Book mostly, I would guess. But FB, as good as it is for showing off your fish/dog/kid/political memes, does not provide what I would term an "information-rich" format. So there still exists a need for a how-to venue, versus the minimalist one-line answers you get on FB.

If you recall way back when, there were a number of good sites dedicated to fishing the waters around Long Island. At the time, in my opinion George was running the best single site that spoke about the fishing WE do. We believe that if we can rev up some decent participation, this new site can be that once again. According to the market research that George has access to, there appears to be a re-ignition of interest in content-specific websites - again, I would guess due to the lack of content on FB and the various other social media platforms.

NYAngler.com will be that site. The whole initial registration and logon protocol is MUCH easier here with the new web host, and posting pix will to be a snap, unlike the gawky interface that other sites use. I believe that those two negative factors were also big contributors to the loss of posters on many fishing-related sites. By the way, here you can post pix with up to 5MB of content. No need to re-size your cell phone images in a piece of third-party software in order to get it to fit into a rigid low-pixular density format. I used to hate that.

In any case, once we get up and rolling I would personally appreciate if you guys would come here regularly, check out the latest postings, and if you're in the mood, leave a post (or start a fresh thread) or two. Your opinions are very valued and contribute to the overall knowledge base - and that's really the mission statement for this new venture.

We will be fleshing out the entire site in the coming weeks, any input you guys want to share, we will give our full consideration.

We trust that you will enjoy this site and make it a regular stop on your interweb travels.

Welcome aboard and thank you in advance from all of us here at NYAngler.com.

Best, Pete "Lep"

Pete, first thing I'd like to suggest is that we get the LEP'S FLEA MARKET thread back up-and-running ASAP! I have some stuff to sell and I always found willing & educated buyers on the old board. I see no reason why we can't make the magic happen again!

If there's anything I can do to help facilitate the process, please let me know.

Hey Harvey! Nice to see you back as well buddy. Been a while since I saw you. Hope all is well with you & the family. Maybe I'll run into you at one of the upcoming shows :)

Got anything new & sexy to show us?

Thanks for everything Lep. I really mean it, you are one of the best! You have helped me out many moons ago. I (partially) blame you for my reel and custom rod collection. Ok, I thank you but my wife certainly blames you!

I like that "Lep made me do it" I'm not sure how well that will go over though
