Any North Fork Shallow water jig toggers out there?

A few years ago I moved to Shinnecock area of the South Shore and put my small center console in a marina close to home on Tiana Bay. So I have enjoyed a few seasons of Fluking with not so great Striper fishing . Now onto Blackfishing ...it is pretty non existent for the shallow water jig style by me which I have come to love that the western sound provided for me in past years. So, in the beginning of this past October I trailered my boat from Tiana Bay back to the western sound and put it in my old marina for the black fish season . That lasted until about the second week of November for me. My question is... is there any significant shallow water Togging in let’s say maybe the Peconics or the easternsound maybe up by Mattituck? I am really not looked for spots or anything like that, I actually like discovering rocks and structure on my own , I guess I am really just trying to determine for next season if maybe I can bring my boat somewhere alittle closer to Shinnecock that will provide decent shallow water Blackfishing or just go back to where I am familiar with. I do see Skinner videos fishing from a kayak that sometimes are filmed I think on the sound out east. I think he is in shallow water using a light spinner with a jig. I also did a search years ago on that old fishing forum on early October Togging in Peconics but apparently there were a few spots but nothing to wright home about. I know us toggers can be downright secretive about our fishing locations and we surely don’t want more guys fishing these areas , but maybe a few of you are in the holiday spirit and can help me out with just a yay or nay about my wasting my time or giving it a try. Thanks a lot

Plenty of shallow water spots between Mattituck and Orient.

Thanks
Can you recommend a marina that would have easy/closest access in that area ?
Should I try finding one in Mattituck or go further east

Thanks again

Theres a great State launch in Mattituck about 2 minutes from Sound. Make a right when you exit jetty to head East and there are a ton of rock piles from there to Orient.

Hey, thanks for the info.
Would prefer not to trailer the boat every trip ,do you know if there are any marinas that might take a transient for a month or so

Thanks

There are absolutely are. I know Strongs Marina does do transient slips - they are about 5 minutes from Sound (make sure if you call them, you make it clear, you are asking about their location closest to Sound - they have 2 locations on the Sound side but their main one is about 1/2 hour ride to the sound.

You may also want to check with Mattituck Fishing Station run by Charlie Caraftis. He's been there forever and not quite as nice as Strongs, but a little closer to the Sound and I'm presuming will be a bit cheaper than Strongs.

Merry Christmas/Happy New Year

Lots of great spots on the North Fork. Almost all on the north side and east of Horton's Point. Mattituck has a nice launch on the sound side. Not well protected for getting home in a northeast wind, and the best fishing will find you well over half an hour from home. There's a beach launch area at Truman beach area in Southold. You could find a place to leave the boat in Greenport. There are lots of marinas there. Just have to get around the point into the sound. Orient by the Sea has a small marina right at Orient Point with a pretty big charter fleet. Not sure if they have a good boat launch or take transients, but that would be the closest you can get to the fishing. All along the north side of the North Fork east of Horton's point, Plum Island north side, the Gulls, Fisher's, all the way to watch hill is prime tog water. You'll have no problem finding spots. Talk to Bill behind the counter at Jamesport Bait and Tackle in Mattituck. He's a stand up guy who can point you in the right direction and usually has good green crabs. Wego on the north fork in Southold can have good information as well. Good luck

A lot of great information here for me to check out. Thank you very much. I will definitely go see Bill from the B&T shop . Going to gather up as much info as I can and determine if I am going to give that area a try next season or go back down to Stamford Ct and the Western Sound where I am used to.

PS But next season If you see a 20ft Mako Center Console with a Honda on the back out by your way, pull up and say hello ...it may just be me .Thanks again and
Happy Holidays

If I had a 23 or 25 Parker like I want, then I would consider it. My boat pounds a bit in a chop. Parker’s do too I guess but at least I would be out of the elements.
