What is the correct way to approach something like this?

We know now that 64 percent of those who have died in New York were aged over 70. Of patients hospitalized with the disease, 94 percent had underlying conditions such as obesity or diabetes. Did the models include a scenario in which we focused efforts on protecting the elderly and infirm while allowing the young and healthy to keep the economy ticking?

I'd guess you'd run a Sweden "Let It Run Wild" Model's data on the entire population and put in some "protection" factor in for the elderly. Your thoughts?

No idea about the policies of every individual country in the world, how is Sweden doing? Can anyone claim they are the "Best" or "Worst" country in their results or should we include or exclude them in the EU reporting?

Sweden is basically Laissez Faire, no closures, schools open, allowing the disease to run its course. so I'd consider that a control, and some factor could be factored in for managed and careful car for the elderly.

Our plateau continues, although we've just hit 50 deaths and are just about to break 1,000 on diagnosed cases (990) state wide. Right now cases are resolving at the same rate of new infections, a very "flat" curve...

can understand how many states' populaces think this whole thing is a farce looking at your numbers. the Massapequas alone have a thousand positives.

I am not ready to try that public setting yet.

Should be good IF, everyone is practicing social distancing, you wear a mask, and you use a disinfectant wipe to wipe off the flags, sand trap rakes and anything else you may touch that don't belong to you...

I’ll concede if you wish to Wear one when checking in and paying, it could be helpful and most likely legally required

but once your on the t box you can be plenty separated

They should understand Maine living IS social distancing...

Maine: 1.5 million people over 35K square miles or 43 people and a few moose per square mile

Massapequa NY: 24K people in 4 sq miles or 6K people per square mile

I'm so glad that your advanced degree in any of the biological or health sciences, and/or supernatural powers to set up a force field around yourself enables you not to worry about wearing a mask to avoid spreading the disease to others or catching it yourself.

Many of us mere mortals would be far more comfortable to see everyone acquiesce and be thoughtful, responsible citizens by wearing a mask when in public settings.

This is the COVID-19 SCIENCE thread, please take your economic discussion to the Coronavirus Thread. I'm not saying your treatise is valid or invalid, it just has nothing to do with science. The science is clear, all the aspects of social distancing do reduce infection rates and absolute numbers, flattening the curve. And yes, the economic impact of this IS staggering. Just how much one sacrifices one for the other is matter of debate, not science.

Please feel free to carry on with your diatribe in the other thread. I'll gladly nuke all your musings here unless you would care to add some scientific discussion.

I’ll give you that the science of mitigation and distancing is clear
If implemented early enough in the proper conditions

but that’s the end of anything that’s clear with regards to this virus or this topic in general
