Just looking at some of the old shows from a few years ago with the Capt on the Ramblin Rose. How often do Captains with their level of license have to renew? In other words take a drug test.

I hold a 50 Ton maters' license but I am pretty sure all levels have to renew every 5 years, which includes a complete physical exam. Regardless of the renewal intervals every one who holds Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) be it Captain or Mate must be enrolled in a full; time random drug testing program. So, you can be called for a test at anytime. Coast Guard is very strict on this regulation and rightfully so. Peoples lives and very expensive property is at stake.
