Nantucket Shoals trip MON 8/10

Okay, not CT but wanted to post this and MA is not listed. Fished a 22 hour Nantucket Shoals trip. Wanted to give a report for people considering this trip. I see a lot of comments from people and now wonder if the people commenting have ever even fished that area. First and foremost, I did not need 20 or 30 oz sinkers. Some guys were fishing with 20's but I managed with 16 oz when tide was really ripping and was able to mostly get away with 10oz of lead. I spooled my rod with 50# braid and really could have gotten away with 20 or 25# test. Not a single person snagged bottom on the entire boat. We arrived early on the grounds, 3:30 and lines were in before 4am. Fishing was slow in the morning and around 11am the bite started. No doormats on the boat and many people did not limit out. My son and I each had our limit of keepers. Gulp outproduced for us. Tried a spoon rig but no success on that. A lot of dropped fish. Occasional nuisance dogfish and I caught the mother of all sea robins. I've seen my share of sea robins after 40+ years of fishing and this one was huge.
Not sure if I would be so eager to do this trip again. While I'm sure the chances of catching a doormat are higher their, it is no guarantee. I'll finish the year hopefully getting on some Montauk boats and maybe the Hampton Lady. We got about 12 hours of fishing time in. Great bunch of people on the boat, both crew and customers.
