    Feeding peanuts to the chickens

My buddy Mike (218 nontypical) and I netted some peanut bunker and headed south this morning until the water warmed and cleaned up. About 40-nm south we found cleaner, bluer, 73° water and some mahi on any pots we could find. We plucked about 15 little ones before heading back north. Then we...

Cod and seabass jigging trip, and Portuguese invasion!

Yes, but that's just making the shafts longer. it doesn't do much good being that the thrust is still the same. Minnkota's most powerful motor is 113 ft-lbs and Rhodan is 120 ft-lbs. I have the Minnkota and it is just enough for most conditions on my boat, which is a "small" 27- footer. My...

Cod and seabass jigging trip, and Portuguese invasion!

I use the trolling motor for the "spot lock" most frequently, but they offer a lot of other features as well. Such as cancelling a wind against tide drift, stemming a ripping tide, or creating a drift when there is none are also important options.

Cod and seabass jigging trip, and Portuguese invasion!

Hey George, We caught the cod on wrecks and some natural hard bottom. Fishing mostly 130-145' of water. I try to target smaller pieces that are mostly overlooked. Pick 1 or 2 and move on. The trolling motor helps make it possible by allowing us to quickly fish a piece and move on to the next...

Cod and seabass jigging trip, and Portuguese invasion!

I've had my butt handed to me this year by the tunas. So I decided to fall back to something else I enjoy. Bottom fishing for cod and seabass. My buddies, Craig, Jimmy and I jigged up 19 keeper cod to 20-lbs and a limit of jumbo seabass in just a few hours before the weather changed today...

OK You NY Worm Trollers Now's Your Chance to let DEC your Concerns

You seem to be missing the point. We all understand that ASMFC wants to reduce mortality on striped bass. Let me approach this from another angle... What % reduction in striped bass mortality does the ASMFC indicate will be realized with a mandatory circle hook regulation?

OK You NY Worm Trollers Now's Your Chance to let DEC your Concerns

You're intentionally leaving out the first sentence which states: Recreational anglers are required to use a non-offset circle hook when fishing for striped bass with any natural bait. It doesn't specify only fishing to keep and kill a striped bass. Targeted C&R is included in "fishing."...

OK You NY Worm Trollers Now's Your Chance to let DEC your Concerns

That may be. However there aren't many, if any, on their efficacy in reducing mortality for striped bass. So the ASMFC won't recognize any reduction in mortality for their use. That makes this proposal an unreasonable, unnecessary, and burdensome regulation IMO.

OK You NY Worm Trollers Now's Your Chance to let DEC your Concerns

If they are so committed to it, then they should recognize some reduction in mortality from it. However, they don't. I just sent my comments off to the DEC: I am writing to you as a NYS recreational angler who targets striped bass in the marine waters with live and dead baits. I have read...

    Minn Kota Ulterra Installation

There's a guy on FB or YouTube or both in our area that has one mounted on his Parker. I believe he has a bow rail, that it seems to work just fine with. I realize it would be a PITA to walk up to the bow all the time, but just a word of caution. I had the auto-deploy model, and it kept...

    Minn Kota Ulterra Installation

I think that your friend w/ the 32' Seavee is going to be a bit disappointed if he's using it for spotlock to bottomfish up here w/ any kind of current.

Planning for a trip to fish the Gulf of Mexico from Venice, Louisiana AND/OR North Carolina in March

Hello folks, I am going to have a bunch of time to take off in March (otherwise I will lose it). I have always been interested in trying to fish in the Gulf of Mexico. I would love to catch some of those allison yft and snapper/grouper fish on the oil rigs. Unfortunately, I have found that...

Planning a trip to fish Nantucket Shoals

Has anyone here planned a trip to Nantucket Shoals to go fluke fishing? I've been wanting to do a trip there with my own boat, but this year, got a little side tracked. If so, I'm interested in trying to plan around the optimum conditions, and was wondering what people that have fished there...

    Proposed New Inlet

Avenger, They have been studying the change in tides, and have found the same to be occurring in New Jersey. The new Old Inlet clearly doesn't have anything to do with waterlevels in NJ. What they believe to be the cause is that the Gulf Stream has been slowing down. When it was running...
