    I get the above question a lot in NY. Not answering for Massachusetts. In you MMC you must be licensed to operate a vessel. If not, you need a safe boating certificate.

    AVENGER-no dumb questions, always glad to assist Its a temporary certification (should be a white piece of paper signed by your instructor). NY State charges a $10 fee for a permanent certification if you are 18 yrs or older. Its a one time fee and you will be contacted via the e-mail address...

    I teach the NY State Safe Boating Class. Once you pass the class you receive a temporary Safe Boating Certificate. As stated, they are vaiid for 90 days once signed by the instructor. I had the pleasure of signing 11 safe boating certiifcated for a class that ended last evening.
