    Good Morning Everyone.

Top o the morning gents and lady gents! Looking out at all that bright white and decided to retreat to my basement workshop to fiddle with some new lure design ideas. No longer into ice fishing, especially with a wind chill near zero.(n)

Be careful what's on your trailer when you go from one water to another

Problem is getting a boat through the stuff! Homeowners are having real problems as are anglers in fishing boats where trolling motors won't cut through. Plust to punch through in different spots around the boat, a 7' rod is a must to pitch into gaps.

outboard repair can be very expensive and frustrating when not fixed

update: I found a competent, honest mechanic in Kingston, N.Y. The motors have started on the coldest days in Dec. He showed me all the parts that needed replacement and why (something 3 other shops were clueless diagnosing. Best of all, he guarantees his work! It is a bit of a hike from...

Be careful what's on your trailer when you go from one water to another

This year was bad for very large, Lotus lily pads in Orange L., NY that most likely came from Greenwood L. in N.J. Once they got started, they spread like crazy and the only way to get rid of them annually is hiring expensive harvesting companies. The leaves overlap, making fishing a challenge...

    Orange Lake, N.Y. ice fishing

A buddy went out recently and caught a bunch of yellow perch through 3.5 - 4" of ice. (too thin for my liking!) He got off when he noticed a crack starting and water coming up. He must have been in a huge school. Not sure I want to brave the cold and wind. Maybe once cabin fever gets too much.

outboard repair can be very expensive and frustrating when not fixed

You betcha! Too bad they don't refund your money when they fail! Same thing happened with my bow mount, foot-controlled trolling motor on my Tracker. The mechanic didn't have a clue how to fix the problem and suggested I buy a new one. I can only imagine the cost of installation plus...

Do fish strike lures to eat them or target lures based on forage?

I coined a word this year: strike-triggers. Good Lures have them as do live bait - though more biological in nature. Fish sense the difference between lures and a live worm or minnow. The lure must have the right action and be within a size range, where action-speaks-louder-than-words...

Do fish strike lures to eat them or target lures based on forage?

That may be, but how do you chose lures based on that? Assigning reasons/motives or emotions fish strike lures, assumes fish reason - and thereby are capable of logic or that fish get angry and are thereby emotional as seen in animals with larger and more complex brains. Beyond assigning the...

Testing and catching fish on new lures is a blast!

I usually fish lakes in Orange County, but have fished lakes in Duchess and Sullivan counties. The tidal creeks emptying into the Hudson R.: Fishkill and Wappingers, have produced different species on the tides going in and out. I've also fished West Point lakes with a permit; and targeted...

Testing and catching fish on new lures is a blast!

Stored in my basement are lures of every kind. Over the years I stopped casting most of them and being lazy, cast only a few I know I can catch the most fish and fish species. Sure, I could start casting weedless jigs with trailers for bass, but most of the local lakes I fish, there isn't a...

I wanted to return it but the seller wouldn't take it. I called Amazon customer service and they said keep it, and they would still give me a full refund. One more reason to live Amazon!

FYI: Active Duty, Retired and Disabled Veterans

I found out this year that I had access to VA healthcare for the first time. The means test no longer includes the spouse's income, which it did to deny healthcare. Good thing I had good health insurance via my federal job. Now my meds are sent to the house and no deductible. I also found out I...
