The season opened yesterday and I was able to get out this morning b4 the nasty wind picked up. Drop and reel fishing today. The 10 other fishermen got em on clams but when u see them stacked up in the water column u know they're on sandeels. Jigging was epic, I came tight nearly every drop b4 the jig hit bottom. We can keep 10 until June 19th, so come get em....

What are the regulations now?

What are the regulations now?
In 2025, the recreational black sea bass season in New Jersey is broken into several periods. From May 17 to June 19, the limit is 10 fish at 12.5 inches. From July 1 to August 31, the limit is 1 fish at 12.5 inches. Then, from October 1 to October 31, the limit is again 10 fish at 12.5 inches. Finally, from November 1 to December 31, the limit increases to 15 fish at 12.5 inches.

I needed to hear it. I am happy for you guys, and pissed at the same time. This is by far the, largest discrepancy in neighboring stares regs that I have ever seen. The same fish in the same waters. The system is broken.
George I was thinking the EXACT same thing while reading the post

HTF ASMFC can rationalize different regs for the same body of water is beyond my comprehension??

NY Bight should be one set of rules for all abutting states, as should be the LI Sound, Chesapeake Bay, etc.

Inane and idiotic things like this are emphatic statements that our regulators are CLUELESS to reality and cater to the states, not the fisheries...

Will these regs put them out of compliance?
No,,,, ASMFC approved state regs for seabass for 2 years - 2024,2025. In Delaware, regulations are even more hospitable with an open season from May 15 through September 30 with a 15-fish bag limit and 13-inch minimum size, reopening again on October 10 and running through the end of the year. In New York waters, the size limit is a whopping 16-1/2 inches with a three fish bag limit from June 23 through August 31, and a six fish bag limit from September 1 through December 31.

I can't come up with any logical justification for the great disparity between the 3 States regulations other than NYS officials in charge had an agenda and f$&#d it up for us!

Each year regs are adjusted statewide based on Fed guidelines versus previous year. Unfortunately reductions do not take into account the historic disparity between states. NY continues to suffer from sins of past.
