Mega / Powerball

I have a Lotto subscription.

It automatically plays two numbers every drawing for a year for $104. If I win anything trivial, it can be applied to next year, or I can cash out at the end of the subscription. If it's bigger, I get a check. If it's really big, I get a call from a lottery official to arrange a press conference.

I've never gotten a check or a phone call. The most I think I've won was about $45.

But, for most if us in the not-so-rare air of working people, even the lower end of Lotto wins, maybe $200K, is life changing money. It could pay off your mortgage, or at least a significant chunk.

Or, if you're lucky enough to have a lower rate mortgage you could put the same $$$ into a money market and actually profit instead.

Everything is relative. Do some math

I'm guessing a NY'er was playing the same 5 numbers with different MegaBalls - at $5 a pop he/she is lucky they hit early in this new game

It's at that point where anyone with a few million dollars can play every combination of numbers. Just have to hope the pot isn't split!

Not exactly, there are 292 million combinations. At $2 a pop - you'd have to lay out almost $600 million and hope you don't split it with someone. Plus Powerball doesn't give you a lot of time between drawings to print all those tickets.

It can be done with lotteries with lower odds though.
