    Titanium Fishing Pliers

Just in case anyone get "hooked", I carry a pair of small bolt cutters on the boat. I have seen videos where experienced Captains tie string around the hook and remove it. Not for me. I would rather cut the barb off. I saw a used pair of Gomexus Titanium Fishing Pliers 7.5". Hooks are pretty...

Snow melt off effects on fishing in the NY Bight & LI Sound

Interesting observation. Like Snapprhead27 I can’t say I have never paid much attention snow/salt in the street vs fishing. Snow on Long Island can be highly variable. The last two years I do not remember much snow. I do keep a log. So, this year I will put under the 2026 year something to the...

    Sad news for bass

Dead discards is a problem here too. I was drifting for fluke in the Long Island Sound. A Dragger pulls up and stops. I assumed he was cleaning fish. Next thing I know I see dead Striped bass floating by, dead Black Sea Bass. I assume the fluke go straight to the bottom. I talked to a few...

    Ward Melville 2026

Looking forward to the show. I have a question. Does anyone know what time will they open the gates and let people into the parking lot? I come early to get a close spot. I usually buy stuff that having a close spot allows me to go to my car, drop off the stuff and go back to buy more :) Maybe...

    Blackfish Jigs and colors

Beside hooks, there are a ton of shapes. The only thing I can think of is the some shapes are less likely to get stuck on a sticky bottom If color does not matter much, do doubt the eyes will be an advantage.

    Blackfish Jigs and colors

According to John Skinner, “The hooks are the same for any given weight.”

    Blackfish Jigs and colors

Regarding jigs, how can you tell if the hook correct? Also, in his book, John Skinner mentions using a blackfish jig for porgy. The hook looks too big on most I have seen.

Regarding Blackfish jigs, can you elaborate on this. Many mention the "correct hook". What are the things to look for?

    Daiwa reels

They mentioned that the Penn and Shimano service is great. To paraphrase, they don't skimp and darn near replace everything. I guess that is great service. Funny how busy they are now. I would have thought everyone would panic in May when fluke season opened and they found their reel rusted...

    Daiwa reels

That is what I asked him. He left a reel (not a Daiwa) at Trophy. I'll follow up with him when I see him.

    Daiwa reels

I am meeting a friend for lunch. He mentioned he needed a new reel Fluke since Daiwa will not service his because it’s over 5 years old. He said he would never buy another Daiwa reel. Is that lack of support and service for a reel standard? I have a Michell 300 Pro serviced like three years...
