An open email tp DEC Law enforcement and our local reps

Imagine if they actually made an effort on the black fish front instead of taking the "easy way out"

Seems we need to get on our local N.Y. State Senate and Assembly members to change the laws and increase the penalties for violations in NY State The 14-in minimum for fluke on the commercial side needs to be addressed as well. The response stated it is both a federal and state regulation. NY...

Stealing a line from Casablaca here but: I'm shocked, shocked to fine that no one from the DEC responded. Have you tried the local NY State representatives. State Senate and Assembly. NY State DEC relies on "YES" votes from our NY State representatives for funding.

    Smithtown Bay to Callahans

They are porgy fishing off Miller Place Buoy 9. The Port Jeff area has been very slow for fluke. I fished B9 the last two Sundays( not including Memorial Day Sunday) did not catch a fluke or see and caught at B9 There are also a few draggers working the area pretty hard. There was a...

    Smithtown Bay to Callahans

The Buoy 9 area has been very quite this yeas, as is the whole Port Jeff area as far as fluke. Buoy 11 isn't any good either. Right after the season opened I had a few short fluke in the Port Jeff area. Last two Sundays no fluke at all. Got a few nice Sea Bass-returned. Porgy fishing is...

    Surprise catch!

To me the decline is due to a number of factors. Did we overfish the population years ago? Yes we did, like many people-the party boat fleet included, we never thought we could fish them out. The seal population isn't helping, the cormorants take some too. What is move concerning to me is no...

    Surprise catch!

I also remember the "glory days" of flounder fishing( born in 1957) St. Patrick's Day was always the traditional kickoff to the flounder season. Fish for Fridays in lent remember? March and April the fleet would fish the Hecksher flats. The flounders always cooperated. Actually remember a...

Maybe our local DEC-Stony Brook needs a change of command. I have heard the "lack of manpower" excuse for the last 25 plus years. Many years ago when I used my non commercial lobster license( yes, you could still catch a few lobsters in Long Island Sound) I was stopped by two officers from...

Send the DEC to the old Shoreham pipeline. There were so many blackfish pots last year you could not anchor anywhere. Like anything else, if they start to patrol at night and a few get caught, it will stop. The message has to be delivered by the DEC and they have ignored this problem for years.

Make Sure Your Trailer is Registered-Violations being written!!!

Saw Suffolk County Police writing tickets for unregistered-expired trailer registrations. Port Jefferson Boat ramp early this morning. If you have re-registered your trailer. Make sure you put the updated sticker on the license plate. Let's not get into the politics of this, just trying to...

Ethanol Free Gas - Please help quell my inner Cheapskate

I know the Station in St. James has ethanol free. Last time I drove by it was $4.49 per gallon. That is out of my budget range. If the cost ever drops to a more reasonable price, I would consider buying it. Seems if the price was lower and they pumper more, the wholesale price would drop as...

Port Jefferson First Trip-Windy This Morning

First Trip of the year from Port Jefferson this morning. Left the ramp about 7AM with the west wind blowing hard. Can the weatherman ever get it right? Broke the inlet to 3 to 5 footers, picked my way to about half way to B11. Drifts were average to fast. Even with wind against the tide...

Will the DEC ever build a boat launching ramp on Peconic Bay ????

I was referring to the old Orient by the Sea ramp. However with Orient State Park right next store maybe the state can step up and build a ramp in a NY State owner property!

Ethanol Free Gas - Please help quell my inner Cheapskate

Ethanol Free Gas - Please help quell my inner Cheapskate

If I could get it here on long island I would use ethanol free only. There is one station in St James that sells ethanol free gas. Last check it was $4.49 a gallon. I cant justify the expense for the 50 gallons the tank holds. If i could find ethanol free at a more competitive price I would...

Will the DEC ever build a boat launching ramp on Peconic Bay ????

Last I saw only parking for 33 cars/trailers. Going to need more parking They were shooting for a Memorial Day Weekend opening with the back up date of July 4th Keep your fingers crossed. BTW: There should also be a push for a ramp at Orient State Park. It is needed now that Orient by the...

Any Questions For NYSDEC Marine Enforcement?

Can anything be done about all the commercial blackfish traps on the old Shoreham pipeline? You cant even anchor on the spot anymore due to all the traps. Last year there were almost 100 traps at one point during the fall season. Nowhere for the rec's to fish anymore.
