Smithtown Bay to Callahans

The Buoy 9 area has been very quite this yeas, as is the whole Port Jeff area as far as fluke.
Buoy 11 isn't any good either. Right after the season opened I had a few short fluke in the Port Jeff area.
Last two Sundays no fluke at all. Got a few nice Sea Bass-returned. Porgy fishing is good. The whole Porgy fleet was off Miller Place on Sunday, including the Middlebank who came across from Bridgeport.

Fishing in the sound has been slow the past three years. Hoping it may bet a little better.

There were a couple of draggers in the B9 area last Sunday and yesterday. At least they cleaned out some of the sea robins

The fish are around, right in our backyard George;). The fishermen aren't. At least no way near the numbers I'm used to seeing. On weekdays I'm used to (and like) seeing only a couple of boats out there. However this past Sunday I felt like I was fishing all alone.

There were only two boats fishing the huge area I wanted to fish. One headed in with a keeper when I arrived. (I know him so we chatted) That left me and one other boat around. They caught a really nice fluke and another keeper. Once they left I was genuinely all alone. Not another boat within 3 or so miles!

Hit a nice spot and caught a nice pair of flatties, and had the classic "lost another nice one midway up" story too. Both landed were over 5 pounds. (25" & 23.5")

Did a few other quick after work trips last week and picked up three other keepers 19", 20" & 21". Caught a fair amount of shorts, but not lights out fishing by any means.

Some days/spots the sea robins were relentless, other days they are nowhere to be found.

The fish are there, maybe not as thick. We just have to find them;)

I agree they're around but everything has to be right. I was out Sunday also. Not meant boats at all. I'm glad your getting them.

Well, I was going fresh water fishing tomorrow but my brother-in law- is afraid of the rain. HAHA. I will be therefore going in the salt for Fluke. I be hanging around Smithtown first then back to P.J. area.
Stay well my fellow fishermen/women.

Well as planned went out Friday and caught only a few shorts, Then went out Yesterday and again only a few shorts. Fished PJ Friday due to the heavy winds and fished Smithtown outside porpoise channel yesterday. Still waiting on that set the hook and calling for the net - :)

Are any party boats in the sound fishing for fluke? It says a lot that the CQ and Osprey are not fishing fluke.

They are porgy fishing off Miller Place Buoy 9. The Port Jeff area has been very slow for fluke.

I fished B9 the last two Sundays( not including Memorial Day Sunday) did not catch a fluke or see and caught at B9

There are also a few draggers working the area pretty hard. There was a dragger off Mt. Sinai-Miller Place about noon yesterday
