I was also 8 years old in 1972 . I was lucky to spend 2 summers out in Montauk-1972,1973 . I remember going out there almost every weekend during the summer and the 5 of us slept on our cabin cruiser docked at Snug Harbor Marina. 1973 we docked at Star Island Marina , I remember going into...
One time I was up at my Chenango County property and was driving down a road and I spooked a herd of bucks . Unbelievable, I saw 7 or 8 Bucks with 6,8, 10 points go sprinting away all in a line.
Have you ever gone sailfishing in the Keys ? Very easy renting a boat there and fishing for them on the reef. Sometimes it's non stop action in early winter.
I remember fishing the Juno Pier and it was like fishing on a Party boat , lined with fishermen who were catching nice King Mackerel and Bluefish. Saw guys walk off with a barrel of fish. No doubt the offshore fishing is better, but inshore I didn't see much action the 25 years I've been down...
All the times I fished inshore Florida, the Florida Keys was the best . You drop a chum bag in the water there and 5 minutes later there's a gazillion fish swimming near your boat. Great Sail fishing on the Reef as well .
I like how shallow it is off the West Coast. Thanks for the Info.
I only went off shore fishing on a boat when I visited Florida in the past. Fished off bridges and piers down there and didn't see a soul fishing the intra coastal water way or a lot of people fishing off the piers. From Fort Worth fishing piers all the way up to St. Lucie Inlet area fishing...
Weird feeling seeing a buck out in the open , 9 out of 10 deer you see have no antlers and when you see one you're in some dream like state looking at them moving along very sneaky .Hope no hot rod next summer kills that deer.
Just couldn't spend $2500-$3000 for a backup motor. Should be fine for me. You should see the busy Hangkai production line, like 300 of these motors lined up in the factory ready to be boxed. I like the challenge of getting this to last a long time.
My father remembered as a kid in the 50's the fall was the time to catch mackerel out of Sheepshead Bay. 7 or 8 years ago there was a nice mackerel run outside Jones Inlet for months during the winter. A mile or two out. Keep your fingers crossed , maybe the crazy fall wind will die down and I...
Bought a brand new Hangkai 12 HP Long shaft outboard on Ebay for $840 . Got it today, looks real good. Spare parts and a 6 gallon gas tank with hose. Bought it for a backup motor on my 25 Panga, will store it in a plastic tote and put bubble wrap all around it and a blanket underneath. My motor...
I was looking at 28 OZ. drails but was worried they'd sink in the water while trolling and affect the lure action. I think MoJo's are connected from the top and it's up and down like a downrigger ball.
Thinking of getting a MoJo head about 24 OZ. and trolling an umbrella rig behind it. Sure beats that horrible wire line or clumsy downriggers. Found a seller on Ebay who sells big heavy Mo Jo heads real cheap. He's got a deal like 8 Norway ( without hooks ) Cod Jigs 12 OZ for $23. Just spray...
This year the bass are chasing huge pods of sand eels. What happened to the bunker this year ? not many pods out of Jones and probably the same along the South Shore.
Went out Tuesday for Porgies near the Jones Beach Piers and not one nibble. Maybe a few, I couldn't tell with the strong tide. Anchored with 2 other boats maybe about 2 hours before slack low tide , had a hard time holding bottom with a 6 OZ. sinker. Waited until I saw the other boats catching...
