You are most likely thinking of the Capt Bob big old wood, very clean boat. Capt Bob is long gone from the area. Currents can run strong at times, try & plan trips away from the full or new moon & it's very fishable.
Just went & looked at the sea of white caps in the sound, with the wind forcast the same tomorrow, N/W 15/19, I just may take a pass, if I'm reading the regs correctly, can't even hide around the south side of Plum Island as that area is closed till the 15th.
