Absolutely not! And while we're at it, place striped bass under federal jurisdiction --- like bluefish --- and they might stand a fighting chance to recover. NJ managed not only to squeeze out 3" off the slot but also expand that stupid bonus tag into the Spring season...my state is represented...
One lake I bass fish holds some huge crappie...weird I've never had a bycatch. I might give it 10 minutes this Spring on some deeper brush piles I marked last year. Like walleye, I suspect it'll be a one and done deal lol
Definitely not! But having rediscovered my freshwater roots last year...the technical aspects of it vs. my usual saltwater quarries for the past couple decades really stood out to me.
The word I'd use for smallie fights is dynamic. Every fish has its own personality...and it seems to differ lake to lake as well. Some will go airborne immediately, others bulldog...some of the biggest fish will torpedo from 30ft down and grab 4ft of air, then immediately sound again in a...
Personally, I'd go to a lighter WIRED hook vs smaller gap. The 60 degree line tie is better than the 90 degree ultra minnow, which once you go over 2oz the hook eye pull point becomes sort of a lever/wedge in the fish's jaws.
I'm convinced that most of the biggest fluke come unbuttoned do so...
Finally managed a new catch and cook, first time seeing a walleye, turned him into stir fry :)
Probably the weakest fish I've ever pulled on. Glad I caught a few on my first attempt, not going back ever haha
Winter buying season in full swing...Valleyhill - Jado collab with Luckycraft, pointers with weight transfer systems and a decidedly head-up posture on the pause (type Js).
I hardly throw jerkbaits but I love buying them, I don't know why!
I have a couple Zillion SV TWS, and yes I picked up the Catalina in a 7.3 ratio off the tackle trap as well. I only used the Catalina once, it'll be my crossover small swimbait - fluke jigging reel, and I think it'll do very nicely for both applications. You can really tell that the Catalina is...
That's not the brain twister people make it out to be. The stock was historically overfished...now with a slashed biomass, it's hard to overfish if you tried.
The large cut in take reflects the fact that most anglers do not keep their full limit of bluefish to begin with. Therefore, a...
One tip re all Daiwa baitcasters that I learned from a friend...unlike Shimano (esp their micromodule gears), Daiwa reels will get smoother over time. I've experienced this from Feugo CTs to Zillions. After the gears wear in, strip off the old grease and reapply; for me it's after the first...
About the only bait fishing I do (outside of togging) is livelining snappers for fluke. One of my favorite late season styles of fishing. I stopped doing that a couple of years ago, after someone pointed out to me that legal or not, I would never use juvenile stripers as bait...
I got over it...
If you're flipping a light (sub 1oz down to 1/4oz) jig around a piece for tog, your jig will fall faster and straighter coming off a spinning reel spool vs a baitcaster, hence landing more precisely on your target. Heavier jigs don't make as much a difference, either spinning or casting will...
Got one of the last 7.3s in, very solid reel. Clicky drag was a nice surprise...the handle knobs are perfect (much prefer these to the Revo Beast's).
The YGK Upgrade x8 in 40lb is thinner than Daiwa J Braid's 20lb. Even if you go by listed dia...one of these companies is way off base...
