The title of this post was true last week, this week it's the opposite. Bunker schools were deep this week, couldnt see 'em on surface, had to find 'em on the scope. But once u found 'em, Stripers were on every pod. Several overs released and the keepers were all 37-38". Hope they stick...
Fluke season here in NJ ends on Tuesday. My buddy found a window for us to get out on Wed.. our logs from last few seasons pointed us off shore to The Farms, a known staging area. The 90 foot depths worked well and we repeated short drifts there for a quick 4 man limit. Nothing huge but even...
HH4H: even with 365 free fishing days on the J2, I can't blame ya for jumping on the BM. J2 does not supply spearing so you'll need a year's worth. . . congrats on the 2 catches, pool winning on NJ party boats is tuff, hat helps . . .
The store in Rochelle Park is now Tackle World, their equipment is Jigging World. I fish with owner Yong and it's amazing how his business has grown. The Nantucket trip I just took was Jigging World charter on the Helen-H and the variety of equipment on the trip was staggering. If you have...
Second day for Nantucket Fluking was a wet one but a good one. Limits for most and again more Sea Bass than I've ever seen on the shoals. My buddy got the big one today, 9 lbs. This year the bigggies showed in August, June was not as good as in past. If you're going up there you've gotta try...
Nantucket report, 8/10... good quality but quantity was lacking. Pool fish went 7.6 lbs and most Fluke were 23 or so inches, no shorts on boat. Several seabass up to my 23"er. Tomorrow's cod/Haddock trip is now Fluke day #2 because the Haddock have not shown up yet on Georges Bank. Check out...
Who knows? When a Fluke throws your hook, is it due to a short bite or wrong leverage on their head shakes? The swing hook should be able cushion those head shakes, especially on those biguns....
I've been successfully using it as my teaser for several weeks now. Works well with Lep's B/S rig using sinker on bottom, rather than the jig. This way the snags over the ruff stuff are minimized. Bringing some with me next week to NanFlukeit, Massachusetts.
No Conger Eels? Hate bringing those up from the deep. We've been getting many out of season Tog at The Farms now. You always get em there on clams but last week we caught Tog on the jig! I agree about Sandy Hook Reef, the nursery...
Water in Reach still cold. Try by bug light or up Shrewsbury River if u can. Pilings by Oceanic Bridge producing. Spearing on naked jighead, teaser above optional. BTW - This is not spot burning, this is NJ...
NJ update: Fluke season opened on Monday but rain/muddy water prevented us from our usual opening day tradition. I've been Fluking from shore and doing well since mid-April (catch n release). NJ Fluke regs for 2022 are 2 between 17 and 18" and ONE over 18". Three of us fished Shark River...
