Post up up your 2019/2020/2021/2022 Blackfishing Pix/Reports/Adventures/Musings

On my boat, and I presume many others, we always save the legs cut off the crabs during prep time and use them to "chum". While I don't think it is as effective as say sending down a frozen log of the target species desired food, it does seem to help to a certain extent. I also believe most of...

There's nothing like a coat of ceramic!

If this wind ever backs off and I can make some money this fall, perhaps I should speak to your son about doing my hull next spring.

There's nothing like a coat of ceramic!

Considering the fact that dark colored hulls always fade with only wax protection, this shine is amazing! Curious, but do you know if the results would be similar on my 22-year-old white hull that has some light oxidation?

One Last Run Before Hauling Out, Bacala Bonanza!!

Looks like a real tasty dinner to me. If that's your last trip for '25 not a bad way to end the season. Bon Appetit!!

Captain's Table - Last minute Tog Opening, Saturday 10/26

Much to my surprise a fairly reliable group from NJ just called me to say they had a few family emergencies come up and they have to postpone their planned Tog charter for this Saturday, 10/26/25. So, I am fully open for a four-man crew on a prime weekend date if you can act fast. Considering...

    Captain's Table - Finally a Weather Break

After a full week of really challenging conditions, I finally ran my first Tog charter of the season today. Vince and his crew of Matt, Wes, and Anthony really personify persistence from many different angles. First, they sailed with me for the first time 3 years ago, had a great trip on a nasty...

    Seekeeper Ride

Just looked at the link Longcast put up, and it seems that for our sized boat the Seakeeper Ride would run between $12-15K. As nice and effective as it sounds, for that kind of money I would sooner add a Trolling motor with spot lock and keep exercising my fingers on the trim tab buttons!

    Seekeeper Ride

Matt, I think the $31K number is for the Seakeeper gyroscope system, not the Seakeeper Ride, electronic trim tabs. 2 different products but I will investigate further.

    Seekeeper Ride

I have heard lots of good things about this system. What I have not heard is will this device also work on straight inboards? All the installations I see are on outboard powered hulls.

    Chinese Round Belly Knives

How True. It's a miracle I still have all ten digits left. Hope I didn't just jinx myself!!

    Chinese Round Belly Knives

I thought I was pretty good at cutting fish, but these guys are masters! And the final product had me drooling!!! What do you think a plate of prime sashimi like that cost here...at least $150-200, maybe more.

    Broke Two Rules Today

Typical mob scene on opening day for Tog. Actually I was very fortunate to hit just the right rock. Most of the boats around me seemed to be in the same situation as yourself with lots of smalls and very few keepers. Caught all my nice fish today on the first drop. Then it was 99% shorts...

Captain's Table- Sea Bass to Tog

Friday’s chilly start set the stage for my last Sea Bass half day charter for this season. Jane and her family make the Columbus Day weekend an annual event and the fish are usually pretty hungry. Yesterday was no exception as over 50 Sea Bass hit the deck on a CT deep drop but only 8 keepers...

So today I came out, my south shore fishing is done. But I did pick up three bushels of Greens for blackfishing north shore

Looks like you are enjoying retirement to the fullest. Way to go, Vinny! See you next week.

Finally made it out to Peconic Bay

Yikes! The fish must have been terrified!

    Scouting

Smart move doing some prospecting for future trips. One of the subtle tricks not enough fisherman use. Can't wait to put a few bends in the rod for the "Legend" on my boat in a couple of weeks. Tell him to hit the gym, just to be ready!!!:D
