Why John Skinner’s Frugal Fluke Choice was a Game-Changer

AI may be smart, but I would like to think we humans still have some advantages! :ROFLMAO:

Why John Skinner’s Frugal Fluke Choice was a Game-Changer

I mean no disrespect to John Skinner who I admit is an excellent fisherman. However, we all know that on any given day or even specific stage of a tide, fish will respond to one presentation/lure more aggressively than another as it more closely matches what they are feeding on in that time...

If you only net one fish...

Beautiful Fluke and quite the exciting process of landing her! Congratulations on your milestone achievement!

Hard to find for several good reasons. Unless I win Lotto, I will never part with this hull. I have no doubt you will love the Albin's performance as you have a chance to start running her consistently. Best of luck and here's to many "fish scales" crossing gracing your deck!! 🥂🎣

No problem, Matt. A few nice ones are often mixed in on the Tog trips.

Captain's Table - Sea Bass Time

One of my loyal customers, Cindy, and her crew joined me yesterday for a half day Sea Bass trip in the Sound. Picture perfect conditions allowed us to set the anchor up quickly on one of my favorite drops just north of Plum. It didn’t take long before the Sea Bass found our baited hooks and the...

The boat that captured my heart and many fish over 20 years ago! Best of luck with her Matt.

Is It Time For A separate Boats for Hire category

While it might be very painful, I would be OK with the suggestions you make Roccus. IMHO it is still better than a total moratorium. I also agree that all businesses, fishing and otherwise, have to evolve with changes that occur over time. It is true that "filling the freezer" days are long...

ASMFC Striped Bass Draft Addendum III - Plain English Summary

I was never an advocate for the 2 fish limit for the for-hire folks, and I still feel the same way today. You make it sound like only the for-hire folks and recreational anglers put us in the situation we are now facing when we both know it is more complicated than that, i.e. poor recruitment...

Photos - Your Chariot - Your Ride

It's great that you were able to observe the process at several stages of the build. Before I bought the Albin, I did visit the factory in RI and got a full tour from the plant manager to make sure I was comfortable with the methods and materials. Very informative. Actually, my first choice...

ASMFC Striped Bass Draft Addendum III - Plain English Summary

My apologies, Hawk, but I should have been more specific about my suggestion that the for-hire fleet be given a "small advantage" vs. solely recreational anglers. My concept is that both the charter fleet and recreational anglers still remain at one fish per person per day, but the for-hire...

ASMFC Striped Bass Draft Addendum III - Plain English Summary

I agree that the regulation issues surrounding Striped Bass are a real mess. Sadly, this is true of most of our fisheries management plans which seem to be governed more by decisions made based upon poor data, bad guesses, computer models, and outside interests. Worst of all despite the claim...

Post your 2019-2025 Fluke Pix & Trip Reports Here!

We did the best we possibly could with the lousy sea conditions. It may have been a "workout" but it was still fun fishing with a couple of good friends.

    Giant Lure

And we spend how much time, money, and effort to catch nice keepers like these on the ocean? A very informative and humbling video but great to see a really skilled fisherman do his thing!

    Striped Bass

I plan to be there and hope we can avoid a shutdown for next season. That would be a very tough blow to all Striped Bass lovers, both recreational and for hires.

    Tides

For once the south shore looks like it has been spared the worst of this storm. And this one did not even reach Tropical Storm levels here. Yikes!!

    Tides

Wow, that's just a little too close for comfort! Praying all is well for your vessel and of course all the residents nearby.

Proof The System Is Broken - We killed 3x the fluke we took home

If actual science ruled the regulations, then, IMHO, we should have a slot limit for Fluke as well to protect the larger and most successful spawning fish. However, the slot would have to allow us to take 18" fish so we could sat least be reasonably assured of going home with something to eat...
