Hello NY Angler,
The question is simple. Should Charter and Party Boats have their own set of regulations? It’s an argument that’s been going on for decades, and one I’ve gone back and forth on myself.
On one side, I see these boats as taxi cabs, just taking anglers like me to the fishing...
It's funny, you think we have the power and I think you guys have the power. I guess that's how DEC wants it. But if we had power wouldn't we get more of the rest of fish in the ocean?
@overboard You’re right. Let’s move the stop and frisk and enforcement talk into a new thread.
As for blame, that’s easy. It sits squarely with the fisheries managers who have let politics run the show. Instead of sticking with the science, which even at its best is a coin toss, they try to...
@overboard Here is your quote and then my response to your take on enforcement
Freedoms......what a joke.
Stop and see frisk was the single biggest deterrent of crime in NYC but unfortunately couldn't survive the liberal axe.
Being stopped and questioned by a boat with 6 armed federalies in...

@OVERBORED Why should anyone have the right to board you for no reason at all? You can't do that in Florida and there is finally some discussion about stopping it here. Also Florida's ocean facing shoreline is 10x that of NY. we're comparing apples to oranges.
Fishing regulations are...

I’m not sure I follow you. Are you saying each of us would get a set number of tags? Interesting idea. How many do you think would make sense? Should it match the number given to each commercial? If that’s the case, I’d sign on in a heartbeat.
And what’s your take on making striped bass...
The POS and POH are referring to when a commercially caught striped bass gets tagged. Ma, RI and NC allowed Point of Sale tagging which leaves a lot of opportunity for up sizing - or culling. Now they must be tagged as soon as they're caught.
As for C&R, I see it as essential for the industry...
I never bought into the consumer argument. You can’t buy venison at the market either, you either know a hunter or go get one yourself. If somebody wants a bass, let them catch it. We all got through the commercial moratorium years just fine.
Everyone knew this day would come, and now it’s...
No comment on the 90s when we actually got things done. You were there, right? We pushed through the last real piece of legislation since.
Now you claim the recs embarrassed themselves while the party and charter boats were well prepared. Are you suggesting they were the ones driving the...
Striped Bass Draft Addendum III - Plain English Summary And the AI Outlook on What The Future May Hold For Striped Bass
The Bottom Line
Striped bass are still overfished. Without changes, there's only a 30% chance the stock will rebuild by the 2029 deadline. The proposed management changes aim...
I made up a fluke sashimi for lunch with fresh home grown jalepeno and cucumber.
As for the trip . . It was an expensive one. I've never seem so many rigs lost instantly in my life. After loosing a few $9, 6 ounce bucktails with teasers and gulp, I switched to losing Petes 6 ounce sinkers...
Actually the 90s were our best years. We passed the bunker bill - the first state on the coast to push out Omega, the blackfish bill - which to this day keeps the com trip limit at 25 and the striped bass bill, that has kept NY coms at 10%. And I was at the table for everyone of those bills...
