True Story: we were fluking off Montauk 2 seasons ago and filleted a fluke for fluke bellies (we saved the actual fillets as well). We kept the carcass (was a 21 or 22 inch fish if memory serves correctly) in our fishbox in case we got pulled over.
Murphy's Law being what it is, we turned the...
What State? NY still shows 4 fish at 19 inches starting May 4. We usually hear about plans to change the regs. All I've heard is we will be status quo (i.e., same as last year) in NY.

I’ve had great luck with the Daiwa BGs and the Penn Battle IIs. I know you said he’d prefer a spinner but let me throw out the Jigging World Chronos reel. Incredibly smooth and strong level wind conventional reel.
Some really good suggestions here. I think at 14 (as opposed to 10, 11 or younger), they should be able to use a baitcaster/conventional set up. Agree with Fishing Nerd that a 10 year old may (stress may) cause bird nests but I think at 14, they should be fine. Sooner or later they have to...
New boat in contract and hopefully will be up North on the East End in a few weeks. This new to me boat was lift kept but has a couple of layers of bottom bait on with no barrier coats. I’d like to strip the bottom and start from scratch as she’ll be living in a wet slip up here.
Anyone ever...
I downloaded Windy and it looked good. Going to do same with Magic Seaweed when I get home. Pretty soon my iPhone will be all marine weather apps (a fun game may be do I have more fishing poles or marine apps). Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks George. I’ll have to check that one out....it’s always good to get multiple “opinions” and factor that into your decision on how far out you can go.
Windfinder and weather.com. Windfinder usuallis usually shows a stronger wind than weather.com and the end result is usually somewhere in between.
In other words, if I check the marine forecast for a given morning at Montauk Point, Windfinder may show 17 mph and weather.com may show 5 to 10...
Haha...really wanted to get a conversation going on what everyone here likes from a boat perspective but that got lost in some back and forth that I can’t follow (honestly can’t tell if it’s good natured ribbing between friends or not).
For sure EXCEPT (and I realize this is a big except), it's just awesome to know your boat is always there and available if you want to just pick up a rod and go fishing.
Eastern 22 is a classic - nice and congrats - I'm sure it serves your purposes well (although I would take your 21 Polar personally if for the speed and increased fishability) :)
What do you all feel would be the best boat for the type of fishing you do?
For me, it would be a Center Console with some protection (I used to own an Everglades Pilot CC and the protection that boat afforded its Pilot was awesome) but no forward seating and lots of room for fishing with a...
Just to add, he’s a heck of a nice guy and will take the time and talk to you about what type of jig you’re looking for. A guy you definitely root for....
Amazon has some of the 6 inch grubs for under 5 a pack as an add on item.
It will be interesting to see how well AAS works...it’d be nice to have an effective alternative to Gulps.

The bigger Tohatsus are already Hondas; other than the cowling cover, the internals are 100 percent Honda. It’s really a shame that Honda doesn’t do more R&D with their marine outboards as they really are the Hondas of marine engines. I’ve owned three and they are quiet, fuel efficient and...
Hey guys - heard about this site over on thehulltruth.com website and was excited to join.
I have a boat out in Greenport and live to fluke the south side of Montauk.
Look forward to contributing here as much as I can.
