Plenty of videos on water/oil stone methods, and the various mechanized units work well too.
One thing to keep in mind: MUCH easier to keep an edge than bring one back from the brink. Your knife (any knife) should either be in your hands, or resting flat on your cutting board while in use; in...
Now, I am against all forms of spot burning...but just between us:
Aquarius Seafood Restaurant in Fort Lee, NJ. Call well ahead for specials like live king crab and spot prawns...not always available.
Excellent read, and to be even more specific I think the salient difference (at least in the noreast) is kayak striper fishing, as opposed to virtually any other species.
Sure there are excellent fluke and weakfish to be had under bridges and close to inlet walls...but plenty of productive...
Had a meal recently that was a first for me: a live king crab cooked 4 ways...
The waiters present the live crab to the table, poke it to demonstrate Yes, it is indeed alive:
First course is a steamed crab leg, with some diced salt-cured radishes and other aromats...this is the part of king...
Correct, in fact it will scope more due to more drag. Personally, unless you're fishing extremely snaggy structure, 15lb braid to 20lb floro is more than sufficient.
Lep addressed the crux of your problem: too much scope, too little weight. But for 99% of inshore fishing...you don't need a topshot. Connect your braid directly to your floro leader, via Alberto/FG knot. I go around 10ft of leader so I never have to retie the connection knot on the water.

Like @george, every Spring I am faced with the dilemma of fresh or salt, always succumbing to salt during the height of the green/brown bass prespawn. As you guys know, this is generally the most productive time to land some quality bass, also the easiest in terms of patterning, and so this year...
Thanks Larry!
GK has been hit/miss last year, and almost entirely miss this year (so far). Also, the scenery leaves quite a lot to be desired...something you notice when the fish aren't cooperating lol. But yes, it can be a high % spot for shore mats early season for sure!
Thanks! I think any legitimate "shoremat" will be a rare occurrence, whether you target them or not. Over the years I have read/heard of quite a few moonlit landings...I wonder if that could be a pattern?
A few years ago, on my first ever land-based fluke trip, I scored a fish around 27". Definitely a "fluke" (ha!) as there was no planning or patterns involved. Since then I've been obsessed with breaking my record from land.
W/o asking for specific locations...where would you guys go for a...
From what I understand, striped bass are heavily dependent on random years of booming recruitment. Any slot, if sufficiently narrow, will put too much pressure on specific year classes...what worked before was a higher size limit, I see no reason why it wouldn't work again.
Personally, anything over 1/2oz I'm going to casting setups, but spinning shines when you're trying to get a light jig deep. Line flies off the spool on the drop, and you can cast in any direction even with the wind in your face without any brain input.
One of my favorite items to cook and eat...I need to get out and catch one for a full video!
Instead of rings, you can score calamari into "flowers." Very easy, and not only is it pretty...it creates grooves that hold sauce.
