Got out at the bottom of the tide. Slack water 54.4 degree water. Startled catching fish right away with a light West wind. Pickled away on keepers and shorts for the next 2 hours, 5 keepers to 22 inches any many shorts. 9:30 wind turned to the south water temperature dropped to 51.4 and the...
The Fluke regs that Pequa previously posted were approved by NY yesterday.
The split-season is a head-scratcher to me, and just like last year's NJ slot (now defunct) will be difficult to enforce.
And these regs remain in place for 2025 (MAFMC: Measures will be restricted to achieve the...
Great writeup Lep. The crowds on Friday were larger than expected. My buddy selling Gulp had to restock to make it thru Sunday. The various manufacturers there were very generous with swag this year... if you showed them your purchase from a show vendor, they provided u some gifts. Only...
If you are attending on Friday you can save $3 if you buy ticket online with promo code SDM24. Friday hours are Noon to 8pm, it's less crowded than weekend. Lemme know if any NYANGLERS wanna meet up... see you there....
Saltwater Fishing Expo FAQ
https://saltwater.sportshows.com/show-info-faq/
The option that came in 2nd place at last night's council meeting included a 1" smaller size for shore/pier/jetty caught keepers. This option would've been popular if it included a longer season.
Council has approved 145 day season, 5/4 thru 9/25, 3 fluke at 18" or >. This meets fed 28% reduction mandate.
Great to see so many people made comments (in person and over Webinar), the council mentioned this was the most comments they ever received and appreciated the public input...
From Roccus above:
DEC will hold a public meeting to review potential 2024-2025 recreational saltwater fishing regulation options for summer flounder (fluke) and scup. The hybrid meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 6 p.m. at DEC Division of Marine Resources, 123 Kings Park...
2023 NJ fluke regs are 2 @ 17<18", 1 @18 or >.
Many options now being kicked around for 2024 but it looks like our slot is not currently in favor by anglers or regulators.
Here are the 2 current well received NJ options:
Option 23) 5/24-9/4 (3) fish at 17 1/2”
Option 30) 5/5- 9/23 (3) fish at 18”
Proposed changes are: fluke- 28% reduction, scup- 10% reduction, and Black Sea bass- no change.. see attached... this is for NY, NJ, CT. and all MAFMC waters..
Hey Lep , I'll be there with the RFA guys (a few years ago you bought our Enough is Enough tee shirt). Would love to meet up, lemme know when u be there...
Hopped on The Gambler party boat out of Pt. Pleasant NJ. The bunkers have left our waters and the XL Stripers are now scarce. However sandeels are abundant and smaller Stripers are now jumping on the jigs. Since NJ does not have a commercial Striper fishery we've been fortunate to retain our...
Had to give it one last try after the blow. Just a few flatties for us yesterday b4 we turned to other species. Blackfish is open in NJ for a ONE fish limit so we made quick work of those. They were voracious, at times hitting my crab on a jig b4 it hit bottom. Got 2 nice triggers on the...
