    Learned Something New Today

Planned on getting an early start & fish the ebb in Plum Gut, fog & drizzle, mostly fog, changed that plan. Waited till about 10 & the weather cleared so set out to fish the flood, still overcast & dreary in the Gut I think that place has it's own weather pattern, at least it kept the boat count...

Covered A Lot Of Water For A Few Fish

Decided to make the run to Montauk yesterday, called a buddy the nite before who has a pretty good handle on what is going on, he basically said have a good boat ride but you are about 3/4 days too late, headed out from Greenport regardless. Spent the better part of the flood tide & managed to...

    Boat Insurance

Thanks to everyone for the responses, had a broker in Lindenhurst recommended by an old friend, went over my Sea Insure policy, made some improvements, stuck with the same deductible, & wrote a policy with Travelers, with a premium $125 less than I have been paying to Sea Insure.

    Another Fine Morning

No second station Capt & it’s not easy, my boat is a 21’ relative short fishing deck, as long as their are not many boats close by I am able to hold the rod in one hand, sneak into the helm & pop it in & out of gear. What I don’t do is leave the helm while the boat is in gear, & once the drift...

    Another Fine Morning

Got out yesterday to fish the ebb tide in Plum Gut, a tide I have avoided in the past. Arrived a little early to the end of the slack, not very boats around so tried a little power drifting, bumped the boat in & out of gear a few times & fish on, looked to be at the high end of the slot released...

    Old offshore memories

Offshore memories, a skinny guy with hair, looks like me a 55lb white marlin on my buddy’s 28’ boat “Shearwater”. I’m guessing 1974.
