I was fortunate to be able to get out one last time for fluke. I had heard there were some fish being caught around the bridge in Fire Island inlet area. Started the morning fishing the West Channel for some Weakfish at the end of the incoming, small fish but loads of fun. Once the outgoing...
I'll tell you this, the south shore bays are loaded with bait. The water is getting cooler and the migration of that bait through the inlets and into the ocean cannot be to far away. Mix that with some predators like Weakfish, Blues and Bass and I think you'll get what you hope for.
So last weekend of the 2020 Fluke season, where to fish after a week of strong NE winds and high seas? Rolled the dice and headed out of Jones inlet where we hit them before the blow. Crapped out, where ever those fish were I know where they weren't. Lol Had a few shorts but nothing to bring...
So Fall is right around the corner but looks like the wind is leading the way. Really looking to get out for the last gasps of the fluke season but mother nature seems hell bent on squashing any of those dreams. Looks like this weekend is a bust both days. Hope for better luck next week.
With only a couple weeks left for 2020 fluke we decided to push the envelope a bit. Sundays ocean forecast said 5 - 10 knt wind with 4-5 footers but the interval was enough that we figured we would give it a shot. Fished S/W of Jones and managed several keepers for the table. Wind picked up...
Wish I knew were Lep was fishing but we had a fun day S/W of Jones inlet by Mcallister reef. 1st drift this morning put 2 5#ers in the box and thought we were in for an epic day. Unfortunately that didn't happen, it turned into a slow grind. However we did catch plenty of 18+ " fish which were...
Pretty sure the WICC tournament is going on this weekend. Heaviest Blue wins you $25,000, from the recent reports seems the best chances of catching a bluefish in the Sound at all is either the Middle Grounds or the South Fork (Orient). Hence the additional boat traffic. Never enjoyed fishing...
I haven't done it in some time however it was productive on occasion. Out front a bit SW of the inlet on yhe outgoing, used set up on the north side of the bar close to a break in the white water. I recall taking my young nephew and spending several hours helping him battle 28-30" fish to the...
Got out with the boyz today, fished outside Fire Island inlet in the ocean. Not as many boats out as I expected and those that were out were spread out all over the place. Ended the day at Fire Island reef, all in all caught some fish and brought home a couple of fluke but a much tougher day...
Doesn't sound like you guys are taking into account the effects of carryover cooking. Dependant on the size of a roast internal temps can rise a much as 10-15 degrees after removing it from the heat source (while resting). In my opinion the goal should be to shoot for a final internal temp of...
I totally agree, I'd rather get ugly details than have someone try to blow sunshine up my butt. I also appreciate that I never heard 'you should have been here yesterday'. Lol
i've got to say he drifted multiple depths and bottom contours. Deepest started around 60' and worked bottom to 24'. It wasn't like he didn't put in any effort to find life but they just weren't there.
Just got home from a full tide 6 pack out of Montauk. Really been looking forward to this trip after listening for weeks and weeks how awesome the Bass fishing has been. I did hear that those 'big' fish that were hanging around pushed east to Block Island but thats OK a bunch of slot fish would...
i've got the unused lat\lon numbers in the boat but I believe their format was xx yyy zzz. I got the degrees and seconds but the 3 positions in the minutes did not jive with any format my machine has. My Furuno is currently using decimal degrees but can be changed to DMS.
