    Tekota 500

I still have a pair of 500's I use regularly and have not had any problems getting parts form Shimano. You should be receiving your order soon.

    Opening tog

Tough to fish Tog properly when the wind has you spinning like a top at anchor. As usual, we are all hoping for better conditions, which will help the improve the catch.

Captain's Table - Bass on Bass

Today’s fantastic fall weather found Mike, his wife Claudia, and friend Nick join me for a half day trip targeting mainly Sea Bass with the hope of adding a Striper to the overall catch. With a very short window to bottom fish due to the strong New Moon tides we arrived on a favorite drop north...

    Over It

Outstanding job, Mitch. Those are some serious Stripers! It will be interesting to see if the bite turns on again for us in the Gut this Saturday. After we finish Sea Bass fishing that's what my crew wants to find...along with the elusive Bluefish!? Never thought I would be saying that.

what will the storm do to the fishing?

I wouldn't call the action I saw explosive but it was nice and steady. First trip after the Nor’easter and I should have guessed the fish that enjoys the rough stuff the most showed up in good numbers today. For the middle 2 hours of flood, I decked 6 Bass in the Gut with a chunky 29” taking...

what will the storm do to the fishing?

I spoke with a few of my friends today fishing the eastern Sound and as expected bottom fishing was still off a bit. However, they did report a decent bite on Bass and Blues. I plan to do a little prospecting myself tomorrow and will let you know if things have rebounded.

Fatty Cod??? And I don't mean fat looking fish, I mean a cod with a ton of fat in its gut

First, I am happy to see that Bob Skinner's creations are still slaying the fish throughout the Northeast! With the declining stocks and increasingly tougher regulations, I have not been Cod fishing for many years now. On rare occasions we still see a stray caught on some of our Tog trips in...

    Captain's Table - Bottom Bonanza

Yesterday’s superb weather and excellent sea conditions set the stage for an excellent day of bottom fishing in the eastern LI Sound. On board were Vinnie, his friend Jason, along with Frank Jr. and Frank Sr. (aka ‘the Legend’). Headed north of Plum I. for some drifting in about 65=80’ of water...

Captain's Table - Montauk Fluke Finale

Thanks, Rocco. Seems that you are one of the few who has been fortunate and skillful enough to find some better fish over the last half of this season. Keep it up!

Took advantage of yesterday’s brief weather window to try one last shot at Montauk Fluke for this season with a 3-man crew of Chef Nader, Neil, and Tom. Conditions on the ride out were flat and thankfully most of the day was quite fishable with the threat of small craft warnings hovering on all...

Cod Fishing Above the Arctic Circle

Complaining about handlining in 4 small Cod Roccus? Be happy you were not one of those Portuguese Dory fisherman hauling in the setlines by hand!!!:ROFLMAO: Seriously, that Cod sashimi does look very interesting and delicious. The cut is so thin that the fish is literally translucent. What kind...

    Captain's Table - Scup Bonanza

After several weeks of very warm weather, Tuesday morning’s NW breeze made it feel just a bit like early fall, a welcome change. One thing is certain; it lit quite a spark under the local Porgy population on the east side of Gardiners. I had Russell and his NJ Porgy fanatics join me for their...

Although catching keeper Fluke can often be challenging, especially this season, it never happens unless the Capt. has the skill to put you over the fish. Kudos, Pete, for my second trip in a row with a limit aboard the Leprechaun. :D

    Magnolia pier.

Excellent tip and the exact way that Leprechain has been doing it for all the years we have fished together, Really does a fine job of preserving the flavor.

    New Dark Matter Rod

So, let's assume you have 2 anglers with the exact same set up, rod, reel, line, hooks, bait, etc. Who will catch more fish consistently, the guy who does the gentle hookset or the "swing for the fences" folks? I am inclined to believe it is a lot like which lure catches the best...typically the...
