Cod Fishing Above the Arctic Circle

So I finally got to fish for cod in prime waters above the Arctic Circle, using all the latest Greenlandic fishing gear, as you can see from one of the photo. Let me tell you, handlining in a small cod on 80 lb mono with a 12 oz Viking Jig and 4, 8" surgical jubes from 20 fathoms isn't much fun. I missed my US Senator w/braid and my Herson Industries custom deep jigging outfit. Having that, I probably would have caught 20 cod instead of the 4 I did catch. I did also snagged a sea cucumber, a new personal best, LOL.

Fish caught were all small, smaller than I'd keep fishing here. The one exception was a 24" fish, the largest caught on the boat, but alas, there was no pool...

But the fun part was the meal made with the cod, introducing me to Cod Sashimi, something I never dream doing because of the seal worms. It was AMAZING!! I may get adventurous come September, especially since I'd slice the fish so thinly I'd be able to see any worms missed in the original 4 inspections...

Complaining about handlining in 4 small Cod Roccus? Be happy you were not one of those Portuguese Dory fisherman hauling in the setlines by hand!!!:ROFLMAO:

Seriously, that Cod sashimi does look very interesting and delicious. The cut is so thin that the fish is literally translucent. What kind of knife skills do you need to do that??
