As I get ready for Ward Melville, it gets me thinking about what I might need.
I went Blackfishing 2025 for the first time in years. I also just jigs for the first time. Usually, it was a sinker on the bottom and two hooks above.
My question is about the jig color. When I went to a local shop...
Happy New Year.
I need my reel spooled with new braid. Where is a good place to have this performed. in Suffolk county is preferable.
I ask as the last shop I brought my reel to be spooled with braid; put insufficient backing. When I told him it was short, they insisted its fine. I like to...
I usually do not buy books anymore. But I do go to the library a lot. My most recent book was : The Fisherman's Wife: Sustainable Recipes and Salty Stories
I am enjoying it as they show you how to cook less popular fish like Sea Robins. However, they have a section on how to prepare Skate (as...
With fluke, the current matters. I went blackfishing and had a steady pick all day.
Does current mater less with blackfish?? Any advice you want to share, please do so.
I have not gone Blackfishing in years. But I am thinking of giving it a try.
I went on a friends boat. Three guys, three methods:
I used the crab and sinker method.
The second guy used Blackfish Jigs
The third used a snafu rig.
They caught more than me. But I think I just have to get the...
I have not investigated this in some time. There are a few Fishing Associations that area supposed to represent recreational fisherman:
RFA
IGFA
NYSF
ASMFC
There may be more. Are there any that represent recreational fishermen and have had positive results that you can site? Do any have any...

Most of my teasers are the usual hair type. So, just asking. Also, do you feel they work better in the begining of the season (May / June)...
The weather, especially on the weekends, has not been great. A lot of wind has kept me from fishing on my boat.
I have caught over 40 fluke. But zero keepers. A friend had similar experience on the south shore
I have not caught Mackerel in the Long Island Sound in many years. This year, maybe...
But how does this make sense?
Black Sea Bass New Jersey Regulations:

1 fish at 12.5 inches July 1 – Aug 31
10 fish at 12.5 inches Oct 1 – Oct 31

I saw some old lures. The names ring a bell, but I have never used any of them (I tend to stay with bucktails). I do not surf cast. I fish on my boat.
Any worth considering?
Two of my boat fenders were looking a bit soft. (see pic)
I was going toblow them up a bit, expecting a valve like a football or basketball. But there a hard black plug there. (see second pic) I assume you don't pry those out.
Are these two fenders considered sealed?
Went to a seminar where they were mentioned. I had never heard of them before. They mentioned Fluke Candy Hi-Lo Rigs. Looking for feedback if you have used them.
