2019 Western Sound Spring Bass run...

Western Sound is picking up. Wednesday morning i went out at daybreak and caught 8 schoolies in a nice rip at a rocky point in 6-12 feet of water.

Last night i chunked from 7-9 and got a fat 35 incher (released) on a bunker chunk in 48 feet and 57 degree water. outgoing tide in both situations.

Anyone else having luck? would be great to get this thread more active like the one on another site that I visit. It's super helpful, even without spot burning. water temp, depth, bait, time of day, tide. that information is so very helpful.

It’s been generally slow but it seems to be picking up.

Was at Jacks this AM. Talked with John. Bass are still tight to the west. Totten to Stepping Stones has been producing. Any moving tide. He said someone brought in a 50lber to be weighed a few days back.

Slow go again yesterday morning. Just 1 bass trolled. Friday was good (but I wasn’t on water). No repeat Saturday.

I chunked Friday night and Saturday night without a single bite. Also tried for fluke and sea bass in 5 spots on Saturday morning, with four guys and double hook rigs. Canvassing the sound with 8 baits for 6 hours and we only got sea robins. This season has been really really poor.

last saturday i did very well around hempstead, this sat, same spot, same tide, same lures. nada. funny ting wuz I didn't even see any bunker getting pushed around. lots of run off in the sound.

Slow go again yesterday. Tried various spots trolling and chunking. Saw some bait and had a few marks but never found a pile of feeding fish.

That's what I was thinking. I hope my transducers not failing me. Be curious what others are reading?

Back bays are usually hotter than open sound, I've had 5-7 deg temp differences in mid may to early June in the past. This is docking at the NYAC and then running out to the middle.

Just checked my log, last year this time I was reading 65-69 in the middle, so I guess we're following the trend...

Fish should be moving east now steadily unfortunately.
