American Patriot Fishing - Dry Tortuga’s

This past October I had the pleasure of fishing aboard the 135’ F/V American Patriot for a 3 day fishing extravaganza. Her home port is Marco Island, FL, and destination was the Dry Tortuga’s.

She a great, very clean, very well maintained, and recently upgraded vessel. She has a very storied history as well. She was formally the Amberjack V, operations out of the NY area. For those not familiar with the contributions she made during 9-11, the link below will tell the story.

Amberjack V - 9-11 boatlift

Getting back to the fishing trip, it was non-stop quality fishing. It’s pretty much all bottom fishing, with a mix of top water Blackfin Tuna opportunities at sunrise, as well as high speed trolling for Wahoo as the boat moves around searching for good bottom.

They have a chef on board for all your meals, and great meals at that, including filet migon, bacon and egg breakfast, pancakes, snacks, 24 hours self serve ice cream machine, soda machine, etc. All this included in the fare. The ship is impeccably clean, fully air-conditioned, your own “spacious“ bunk, with enough space for yourself to stretch out, and keep your gear as well, and 2 hot water showers.

Fishing on the American Hunter, sister ship of the American Patriot. She’s a bit smaller at 75’ but a fine vessel indeed.

This is a limited trip, 12 anglers, departing October 3rd, for 3 days in the Dry Tortugas. She departs out of Marco Island, FL. Fare is $895 and includes just about everything, including 3 squares plus snacks every day. We have 1 spot left on this trip of a lifetime if anyone is interested.
