Another Keepah from Keepah Korner in Keepah Kove...

I had a lovely morning in the Keepah Korner of Keepah Cove, my first visit in a week. Ended a brief 90 min session with 6 fish, all but one measuring 21"+. The 28" fish, my first for the morning, was quickly released in hopes she'll make it through the gauntlet to the south and have a successful spawn during Spring, 2022!! She was the 21st Keepah of 2021...

Two notable firsts today:
  1. The first time I hooked, and lost, 2 two keeper-sized fish on one cast. The first fish hit early in the retrieve and was pretty much played out when she spit the hook next to the boat. Before I could even pick the plug out of the water, another fish, a bit larger than the first, grabbed it and hooked herself. That only lasted a brief moment as it was a lip hook and the hook pulled. Yeah, I cursed just a bit, but also laughed...

  2. Andre and 2 of his friends actually chased me off my spot. I've never been mugged by seals before, but these guys were relentless. Every time a fish broke, they would headed right to that spot, even doing that when I casted and popped a few times. I saw one of them with a small bass in his mouth so stripeahs were on the breakfast menu!

When fishing salmon in Alaska its usually a race to get them to the boat. Those sea lions are relentless. I had a seal mugging me once when I was playing catch and release with small bluefish.
