Another Reason To Stay Away From Car Dealers

My Brides' car is a Hyundai SantaFe, still under warranty so I bring it back to the dealer for State inspection, while it's in lets rotate the tires, OK all is good. Fast forward a couple of months later, front tire picked up a screw & almost flat, lucky I discover it at home in the driveway, no problem I'll take the tire off & I can put a plug in it. Now I realize at the dealer they use an air gun on the lug nuts, I also realize I'm no spring chicken any longer, but I had to put a pipe on a 18" breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts, If I had to change a flat on the road, would have had to call for service. Went around & all wheels were the same, checked the book & torqued the lug nuts to the required 80ft lbs. That's the end of my rant.

Twice had to replace the lug on a wheel on wife's Subaru because it was stripped.

Only serviced the vehicle at dealer!

I had that problem with the oil plug. Dealer didn't put on a crush gasket and then over-tightened it. I needed an impact wrench to get it loose. Luckily nothing was stripped.

our dealer did the free first oil change on SWMBO's Crosstrek five years ago. (I always have done ours.) So when the time came for the second one, I was stymied by my socket not fitting despite reading the manual and double checking on you tube. When I finally got it out, after trying a different mm socket, I realized that it was an old plug, that they probably had lying around, one that evidently belonged to an old Forester or Outback. Evidently they lost mine and put in this old one. I needed collapsible washers and ordered the corrected size drain plug at the same time. Car hasn't been back to those monkeys since.

I'm getting very close to 60 and this ^ is the reason I still do as much maintenance as possible on my family fleet of 5 cars. I do make it as enjoyable as possible... I bring the dog out front with me and take my time on a favorable weather day.

Many, many years ago as a new teen driver I went to a different service station for an oil change. Don't recall why I did it but I made an "X" on my oil filter before I went. Yup, while it looked like fresh oil, I still had a filter with an "X" on it, lol. Had my neighbor teach me how to diy after that.

I always mark a tire before a rotation if I'm not able to watch....

Cabin Air Filters are the biggest ripoff, $100+ Do it yourself small $’s and less than 5 minutes and that includes the time to pick up all the stuff that falls out of ‘glove box’ if you’re not careful.
