This video shows spearfishers taking two huge striped bass. After fielding questions they claim it was shot before the slot. Sweetheart do you think? I call BS. It is a great and very educational video.

I suspect that if some one looks years enough they can prove it was more recent then what do you think?

At :20, while in the car, the camera pans over the car reg sticker but moves too fast.

The producer answered me on Youtube. He's legit. Pointed to an insta post he made right after the trip.
Yes, they sailed out of Montauk but most of the footage and fish shot were done by Fishers Island. That's the Race Rock Lighthouse.

In addition to the questions about taking large Stripers, perhaps at a time when a different slot size was in effect, what about spearing the Blackfish in the summer, obviously out of season?
I guess the Aussies feel US rules don't apply to them?:devilish:

Do you think the Aussies held a US FFL to spear the Tog? Highly unlikely.

I also went to the original YouTube source video and read all the comments including the divers claim about the film being shot in August of 2017.

Honestly, I did not research the total history on when our slot limit began in NY but I do know for sure, at the very least, we had a one fish limit with a minimum 28" size in effect then. As others noted, this "clown from down under" actually mentioned int the video he did not initially know there was a one fish bag limit on Striped Bass.

Next point, as was mentioned elsewhere, how the hell are you going to judge the size of a Striped Bass swimming in the wild underwater before you spear it and fatally wound the fish? At least with a hook and line catch there is some chance of the wrong sized fish surviving.

And what about the local Captain that took these folks out. Is he also claiming ignorance of the law? Shameful.

I go back to George's original call when he posted this thread...all BS!!!

Why don't you kill your own local fish in Australia, MATEY!!! Oh, I forgot he said they already decimated their own waters!:devilish:

If someone digs into the footage and finds out it's recent, it wouldn't surprise me. These things can be tricky to verify, so who knows?
