Awful Porgy Fishing out in Peconic Bay Yesterday

Probably the First time I didn't catch Porgies out in Peconic Bay when I was targeting them. Went out for the famous May fishing out there because the next 2 weeks I'll be Upstate and on vacation out West.
Stopped at WEGO bait and tackle near the NYS Boat Ramp in Southold , bought 2 logs of clam chum and asked where they were catching Porgies. They said Try the Greenlawns and The Middle Grounds. Nice beautiful day , almost flat as a lake. 2 days of warm temps would surely turn on the bite, Right? Went out to the Greenlawns and there was a Party Boat with a lot of people on board fishing . I didn't see one fish come up the 20-30 minutes I watched them. I drifted to cover more ground and didn't get a tap . I went around looking for good bottom on my fishfinder and not a tap. I've fished the Greenlawns for years and always had action. The Party Boat went over to the Middle Grounds and 1/2 hour later I sailed over there and saw a giant fleet of 6 or 7 Party boats and 25-30 private boats.I hestitated following the Party Boat figuring if there were fish over in the Middle Grounds he wouldn't be fishing the Greenlawns.I pulled up to the Middle Grounds , Looked all around and didn't see one silver side came up the whole time I was fishing there. Fished there about 2 hours . I drifted thru the grounds again to cover as much ground as possible and all I caught were Sea Robins. I even tried fishing for Fluke dead sticking. Nothing .
They say the Water Temps are very low and the Porgies are playing hard to get. The Party Boats were packed with people , they knew where small pockets of fish were and they got some at the end?? I don't think I'll ever go out there in May again. I always fished out there and clobbered the Porgies in late May /during June. This year I wanted to go out there on Opening day on May 1st. WEGO said the Weak fishing was Spotty .
Felt kind of sorry for those people on the Party Boats, They had poor fishing and paid good money. I think the Party Boat reports are BS . I watched them for hours and didn't see a single fish caught.
Wanted to experience the famous May Porgy fishing out there and got skunked . I'd probably have waited another week or two if I wasn't traveling next week. If you're thinking about going out there for Porgies, I'd say wait a week or two. I just hope it's the low water temp's and not a low Porgy population.

That's fishing. Sure wish I was able to get out in that beautiful weather yesterday instead of being stuck in an office. You have to put things into perspective.
