Bass and No Fluke

Headed out with Frank Sr, we didn’t get out extremely early but left dock about 7Am. Beautiful clear day got out in the sound and had to think am I in the sound or on the Long Island Expressway. Was definitely a lot of boats joined the fleet and it was a little crazy. Who’s Trolling, who’s chunking, who’s jigging who’s casting top water plugs then you have us drifting live baits. Didn’t take long and I hook up with a 40” fatty Frank Sr followed with a nice 38” inch fish both quick releases. Still had about a hour left of tide marking fish but they stopped chewing. Nobody was doing anything. Decided to try fluke fishing went east traveled past Crab Meadow and there were the party boats from city island porgy fishing with a few private boats fishing. That’s a long way for porgies. Set up just east of them but not as far down to sunken met. Making drifts from there and back to the stacks. We continued making stops heading back to Huntington three hours of fluking one short and one sea robin. Are we gonna have a fluke season or is fluke on the side as the winter flounder. See what happens mid week.

I remember 2 or 3 years ago there was a very slow start for Fluking and it was slow until about the end of June. People thought the Wind Mills had something to do with it. But I got skunked Porgy Fishing out in Peconic 2 weeks ago so who really knows ? Just hope it's not overfishing. Combs Bait and Tackle said Green was the color for Fluke.
