Bass Fishing Outside Jones Inlet

Pangaroo

Angler
Went out yesterday ( Sunday10/26) because it was going to be flat calm on the ocean . The previous week was too rough for me and this coming week is going to be rough again, So I went out fishing on a weekend. Went out in my 25 foot Panga boat and saw a big giant fleet of boats slightly SE of the Inlet about a half a mile out. All the boats made it a little choppy , was very calm after the fleet dispersed and went East or home. Saw birds diving and fish breaking on the surface , but you had to move again and again to follow them. Tried jigging and trolling, nothing. Figured they were on the surface I let out a shad umbrella rig to cover a lot of ground, not one hit. The fish moved all around from 43 feet into almost the surf. Caught one oversized snapper on a jig and one Spinner Shark that I snagged on a MOJO rig and that was it. Didn't wanna sail past the Needle and keep going East like the fleet was. Didn't see one fish caught? Hardly any fishing West of Jones Inlet, just a handful of boats trolling.
Maybe it's a little early or maybe there was a good bite early before the fleet grew, I got out there about 10:30 AM. near the end of Incoming tide. Saw bunker pods here and there , not as easy as it was 2 years ago to catch Bass. I like the Marine Weather reports they give today , it's good they report the wave intervals like 1 foot every 9 seconds from the North. Years ago they only told you wind speed and direction. Beautiful Day out there.
