So there is a new bill that would mandate speed limiters in new vehicles that would be set to the local maximum allowable limit. The bill will require any vehicle manufactured or registered in the state of New York to be fitted with the ISA system, starting from Jan. 1, 2024. The bill also includes safety systems like automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors with pedestrian detection, driver drowsiness detection, and even a data event recorder. to be mandated from the same date.

What is next? Let’s monitor my bowel movement to insure I’m eating healthy so my health insurance premiums don’t go up. This is just another attempt at a money grab by issuing speeding tickets just like the red light cameras.

A good friend of mine's brother worked for NYS and was a DMV inspector that was somehow involved with monitoring licensed repair shops. Not sure of his exact capacity and specific details.
I do remember him telling us one night over a few beers many years back, that there was cutting edge technology regarding controlling speed of vehicles. He told us to pay attention to those overhead signs on the LIE that span all 3 lanes and have little hanging squares. He said at the time, maybe 20 years ago they were experimenting with tapping into the computers of cars passing by to regulate their speed....
