Bilge Pump and other Boat Issues 2024

Making me crazy
Wont turn on when I hit the switch at the helm but works fine with float switch
I put water in bilge and it licks on fine
My thought is the pump is good if it works by I got a bad connection somewhere and just gotta find it
My guess is its not the pump itself since it dies come on??
Thoughts?

Well, next electrical project….
Bow navigation light
Bow and stern/anchor on one switch at helm
Off is in center, Up is navigation and down is anchor light. Stern/anchor light works fine bow doesn’t. OK, gotta be simple like light bulb or something. Found a spare bulb on workbench, swap it out, Nada
The optimist in me hopes my spare bulb no good either so I’ll try and get another this morning
Connections at the fixture look good and I doubt bow and stern would have 2 different fuses
Never a dull moment and this is last thing holding me up from splashing 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Bad Ground

You know how to use a multimeter?

Those cheapies from Harbor Fright are actually pretty good except for the leads. But they'll do.

They can check the bulbs for continuity and look for voltage at the terminals.

Bad Ground
Kinda
Found a loose connection where the fixture meets the wiring to the switch👍 Gotta either find a new fixture with the same male connector side already attached or swap/eliminate that connection and reconnect the ends with water proof butt connectors
On Sunday in my area, west marine is my only option 😢

West Marine was not helpful at all
I resolved the bow light issue with no new parts, just connectors 😎
Glad to hear you resolved your electrical issues. Better splash fast and try to fish on Tuesday. Many very iffy days ahead with the never-ending east wind and several fronts moving through.

I was lucky my opening charter guys who were scheduled for Wednesday can shift to Tuesday. Maybe I will see you out there.

Good luck, be safe, and catch a bunch this season!:D

Yes
All set to splash at this morning’s high tide here about 8am rain or not

I saw the forecast for the rest of the week and got a bit depressed LOL

We shall see 👍

Today I have to take care of the next project on the list to take care of on one of the most frustrating boat prep seasons I’ve had in years
On our shakedown cruise on Monday my son and I were hearing a noticeable and loud knocking coming from the motor
I figured worst case scenario and it was internal rather than external while hoping maybe a bolt fell off or I accidentally left a socket or wrench under the cover that was rattling.
Made it back to dock OK with no power issues
Let it idle in slip and it sounded fine
Hmmmm. WTF
Lifted motor up and saw the zinc tab I just installed was gone 🤦‍♂️. I tightened that son if a gun as tight as I dared without over doing it. Same as I do every year with never an issue. Im pretty sure the noise we heard was that thing clanking around before it completely fell off. I saw a scratch on the prop first that made me put 2 and 2 together
Now I gotta figure out if I can reach it to replace it without going for a swim or need to put it back on trailer to do it 🤬🤬

Had to help Frank Sr with a issue with his boat. Boat transport dumped him and frank sent him on his way while doing a few things. He goes to leave the dock and puts the boat in gear only to end up going in reverse. He continued playing around with stuff only to come to grips he reversed his props. So he got it to his slip and the next day I met him, on high tide. We turned the boat on a 45 degree angle between his slip and the slip next to him. I was able to lay down on dock and switch the props. Not sure if something like that would work for you. P.S I did a lot praying I Didn't drop anything LOL

Couple drinks and a floatie under your arms along with a quick swim will be fine. 8-)

Maybe "rename" the thread "Bilge Pump and other Boat Issues 2024"

I will add. My SeaKeeper ride is malfunctioning. So out the boat comes for a trip up island.

Dang
Thats an adventure for sure😳
Glad it worked out for you
My marina is a private community basin and some people have their own wooden finger docks others don’t
Im an “other” LOL but me and the guy next to me have a homemade finger made of vinyl build a dock cubes. Its OK for getting on to the boat but not stable enough to work off of
All of the other guys fingers with a “T” are in the water for the season but most boats not yet
Me and my son were able to move the boat and back it into another slip with no boat yet and with the motor raised i could reach it from the “T” along the bulkhead edge. I too was very nervous about dropping anything in the water LOL
This time I added a bit of loc tite type stuff to try and stop it from spinning off again
Took a ride once completed and now all good 👍
