Factory-If you don't mind a short rod Daiwa Proteus SS-664-ML.Thats one power level up from what I was using yesterday.Looking for some suggestions for a jigging stick 1-2oz factory or custom for both sticky and non stick surfaces?
Yes Mike I should have been more clear in my post The 701-L in my opinion fishes down to a 1.5 oz jig but I usually carry 2 tog jigging rods with me and don't use the 701-L until I go to 2 oz.I am very particular about rods I choose for the weight of jigs,I carry one that will do 3/4 to 2 oz. and another that does 2 to 3 oz.I do not fish under 3/4 or more then 3 oz.jigs.I don't feel that rod fishes a 1oz jig very good though, just my opinion. The Black hole challengers are great Blanks,I own the 691-UL and 701-L spinners in Factory builds.Im happy with the blanks but not the overall factory builds.I have fished both versions in factory and customs by Ralph Rodwinder which Ralphs rods are set up far better to my liking.I'm fishing a Black Hole spiral wrapped 701L and I routinely catch fish on less than 2 oz jigs.

Custom Black Hole 691-UL by Ralph Rodwinder...Nothing fishes as good as a Rod set up by Ralph.
When you go to jigs under 1.5 oz. you really need a light tip or you cant feel anything.Biggest mistake people do when tog jig fishing is use a rod that has to hard of a tip.
There's others but those two I have considerable experience with and can 100% recommend them.
The Black Hole 701-L is nice but it really comes into play with a 2 oz. jig and up.
It was nice to see you yesterday and share a deck of a fishing boat again with you.Its been too long,PM me your number and I will try to get you on some trips in the future.Although Im already sold out for next season life happens and people need replacements all the time.
I’d like to take a peek at that model also Mike and looking to add a back for the back upI'm fishing a Black Hole spiral wrapped 701L and I routinely catch fish on less than 2 oz jigs.
I’ll be stopping by Richie’s during cabin fever time to take a look at that as wellForgot to mention the new CTS black fish jigger I got from Capt.Richie at Atlantic rods.I am super pleased with this stick but again its a rod that comes into play when I go to 2 oz. jigs.Fishes 2 to 2.5 and 3 oz. Tog jigs like a champ.Probably do 4 oz but once I need to go past a 3 oz. jig Im soaking a crab with a sinker.
Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving Kal,all the best to you and the family.
Also, in the factory rod department, give a look at the 6'8" Black Hole Charter Special, which I have used to great effect this season, with jigs in the 1-3oz range. And for something lighter in power and weight, my new Shimano Grappler Type J in a 6' ML seems to be the bomb, though I haven't caught anything worth taking about, just yet. Pretty confident I will though . . . Also available in a 7-footer, if you want something longer
Well, I don't know when it might happen Kal, but next time we go togging together your welcome to take it for a ride.I’d like to take a peek at that model also Mike and looking to add a back for the back up
hope all is well bud
Let me know which expo and when I have something for you waitingNext time I'll have them available at my booth
at the fishing and outdoor expo.
I am not familiar with the rod so can not comment. You will be extremely pleased with the reel.I sold my 2500 certate becuse every tog over 5 lbs you felt it in the handle.I purchased the shimano Twin power to replace the Daiwa Certate and couldn't be happier.Only DISLIKE I had of this reel was the handle and you already solved that problem with a upgrade to power handle.Shimano puts to small of handles on there 2500 reels.I found a 4000 handle on E-bay and it works like a charm.Good luck with the new set up Kal!I had the chance to look at the Centaur slow pitch Chiron 6’5 blank today and added it as a secondary set up. I ended up pairing it with a shimano twin drag 2500 w/ the power handle and it balances well. Can’t wait to break it in next week on the A-team charter on the Ocean Eagle next wknd ?
I got a chance to flirt with the new set up over the wknd in city island. Unfortunately no fish over 3lbs to test the balls but got a good feel for the setup overall and very pleased with the balance, weight and power. So pleased I added the 6’6 model which is 1 inch longer and softer tip. Both rods will cover the 1/4-3oz jig range needed which will hold me down for the rest of the seasonI am not familiar with the rod so can not comment. You will be extremely pleased with the reel.I sold my 2500 certate becuse every tog over 5 lbs you felt it in the handle.I purchased the shimano Twin power to replace the Daiwa Certate and couldn't be happier.Only DISLIKE I had of this reel was the handle and you already solved that problem with a upgrade to power handle.Shimano puts to small of handles on there 2500 reels.I found a 4000 handle on E-bay and it works like a charm.Good luck with the new set up Kal!
