Having an issue with organized religion is different than being an atheist. But as far as him being spiritual that must mean "enlightened" by street pharmaceuticals.

None of the lyrics individually is necessarily evil, but when you put all the pieces together, and consider Lennon's leanings it's straight out of the Communist Manifesto. As long as we're aware of what it is we can always choose to ignore the undertone and just enjoy it as what we want it to be. But since most people aren't really paying that much attention it becomes a kind of subliminal brainwashing and I think it's manipulative.
