Alright crew, listen up. The offshore grounds are in a state of transition, and if you want to find the fish, you need to know where to look. The recent nor'easter has shuffled the deck, but the fish are still out there, and they're hungry. Here's the breakdown, from south to north.

🧭 Hudson Canyon - October 17, 2025

The Hudson is a bit of a ghost town at the moment. The warm core eddy that was holding fish for the past few months has finally broken down, and the blue water is fading. The longliners are coming up empty, and the few boats that have made the run have been picking at single bigeyes and yellowfin. It's a long ride for a short bite, and right now, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. If you're dead set on heading to the Hudson, your best bet is to target swords and hope for a couple of bites.

🧭 Atlantis Canyon - October 17, 2025

The story is much the same at the Atlantis. The water is on the cool side, and the bait is scattered. We're hearing whispers of a few yellowfin being picked up on the troll, but the action is far from consistent. The boys on the Bluefin IV made a run out there earlier in the week and came back with a couple of fish, but they had to work for them. It's a waiting game out here, and we're all waiting for the next push of fish to move in.

🧭 Block Canyon - October 17, 2025

Things are starting to look a little more promising as we move east. The water is a bit warmer in the Block, and we're starting to see some signs of life. The Alyssa Ann Sportfishing crew found a nice temperature break on the west wall and managed to put a few yellowfin in the boat. The fish are there, but you have to find the right water. The key is to find the bait, and right now, it's still a bit of a scavenger hunt.

🧭 Toms Canyon - October 17, 2025

The Toms is showing some real potential. The draggers have started working the edge, and that's usually the spark that ignites the fire. We're seeing the first signs of a daytime chunk bite setting up on the east wall, and that's a trend that should only improve in the coming days. The Rock Fish Charters team was out there yesterday and reported marking good numbers of fish, but they couldn't get them to chew. It's only a matter of time before that bite turns on.

🧭 Fishtails/Bacardi Grounds - October 17, 2025

This is where the magic is happening right now. The area between the Bacardi wreck and the Texas Tower is on fire. The yellowfin bite is off the charts, and it's all being driven by the massive schools of peanut bunker that have taken up residence in the area. The Lady Grace Charters and Finall-ey Fishing boats have been putting up double-digit catches, with some boats reporting 20 or more fish in just a few hours. It's a live-bait game, and if you can get your hands on some fresh peanuts, you're in for a banner day.

🧭 Montauk Offshore Grounds - October 17, 2025

The bluefin bite on the Regal Sword has been the most consistent action in the Northeast for the past few weeks, and it's still going strong. The fish are there, and they're hungry. The live-bait drifters are having a field day, with some boats reporting multiple hookups at a time. It's a bit of a run, but if you're looking for a sure thing, this is it.

72-Hour Oceanographic Outlook

The weather window is closing fast. We've been blessed with an incredible stretch of calm weather, but that's all about to change. A Canadian high is sliding in, and it's bringing some snotty northwest winds with it. Saturday is your last best chance to get out there before things get sporty. After that, it's going to be a waiting game. Keep an eye on the forecast, and be ready to make a move when the next window opens up.

Stay safe and fish hard,
Captain Jack
