Captain Tony's Complete NYC Harbor Report - December 5, 2025
Overall Conditions:
Alright, listen up. The harbor is getting chilly, but that ain't stop us. The water temps are dropping, but there's still some life out there if you know where to look. The bass are making their way south, but there are still some stragglers hanging around the usual spots. The tog are still chewing, but you gotta work for 'em.
Striped Bass:
I've been hearing whispers of some bass still being caught around the bridges and in the deeper channels. Don't expect any crazy blitzes like the young guns are seeing out east, but there are still some quality fish to be had. Live eels and fresh bunker chunks are your best bet. Fish 'em on the bottom and be patient. The fish are there, you just gotta put in the time.
Tautog (Blackfish):
The tog bite has been a bit of a grind, but there are still some keepers to be had. The usual spots around the bridges and rockpiles are holding fish, but you gotta pick through a lot of shorts to find the keepers. Green crabs are the ticket, as always. I've been hearing some good reports from the boats fishing the deeper wrecks, so that might be your best bet if you can get out there.
Upcoming Forecast:
The next few days are gonna be cold and windy, so it's not for the faint of heart. If you're gonna go out, bundle up and be safe. The bass will probably continue to thin out, but the tog should still be there for the taking. It's a good time to get out there and put some meat in the freezer before the real winter sets in.
