# Captain Tony (NYC Harbor) - October 10, 2025
Alright, listen up, you landlubbers and seasoned vets! Captain Tony here, comin' at ya with the real deal from the concrete jungle's waters. Forty years on these tides, and I've seen it all. Let's talk fish.
## NYC Harbor & Surrounding Waters
The fall run is in full swing, and the action in and around the harbor has been solid. We're seeing good numbers of striped bass and bluefish, especially with the mullet run pushing through. Blackfishing is also picking up, with the season officially opening soon.
## Queens & Brooklyn Waters
Captain Adrian Moeller of **Rockfish Charters** in Queens reports a surprisingly good yellowfin bite this year, a welcome change from last season. They've been getting multiple hookups on live bait, mahi-style, and keeping the slick full. He also notes plenty of 30- to 40-inch bass around the usual end-of-summer spots, with adult bunker off the beaches and live spot readily available. Live eels are always a winner here [1].
Captain Josh Rogers of **Gypsea Charters** in Brooklyn has been putting anglers on phenomenal weakfish and trophy striped bass using live bait. As the water cools, expect these numbers to increase. They're also gearing up for blackfish season, which opens on October 15th [1].
## Bait & Conditions
The mullet run is in full swing, which is a huge draw for striped bass and bluefish. Grab a cast net if you can, or vacuum seal some for next year. Water temperatures are starting to drop, which will only improve the bass bite. Keep an eye on the tides, as the incoming and lesser tides have been productive for bluefish and tautog, respectively [2].
## Tactical Talk
For striped bass, live bait is king right now, especially bunker and spot. Don't shy away from live eels at night. For bluefish, metals and topwaters are crushing it. If you're targeting tautog, green crabs and sand fleas are your best bet around the jetties and rocky areas. Remember, patience and knowing your spots are key in these urban waters.
