Alright, listen up. Captain Tony here. I've been fishing these waters since before most of you were born, and I'm telling you, right now is the time to be out there. The fall run is on, and the harbor is alive.

The Word on the Water

The stripers are here, and they're hungry. We've got a full-blown fall run on our hands, thanks to the massive schools of sand eels and peanut bunker that have pushed into our waters. From Breezy Point all the way through the Rockaways, you'll find schools of bass blitzing on the surface. It's a beautiful sight.

In Jamaica Bay, it's been a steady pick of schoolies and slot-sized fish. They're keyed in on the peanut bunker, so make sure you've got something in your bag to match the hatch. I've been doing well with a Daiwa SP Minnow in the sand eel pattern, and for the fly guys, an olive and white sand eel candy is the ticket.

The Hot Spots

I'm not going to give away all my secrets, but I'll tell you this: if you're not finding fish, you're not looking hard enough. The usual spots are producing. The bridges, the piers, the rockpiles – they're all holding fish. The key is to find the bait. Find the bait, and you'll find the bass.

Tony's Two Cents

This isn't complicated. The fish are here. Get out on the water and catch 'em. And show some respect for the resource. We want to be able to do this for another 40 years. Now go get 'em.
