Captains Table 11/5 Tog Action

Ran a private charter today for “celebrity” Chef Nader looking to find that monster Tog he dropped on a trip with me 2 weeks ago.

Temperatures were pretty chilly to start and made a bit more uncomfortable with a steady ENE wind. Tired a shallow drop on the south side of Plum looking for some lee. At little bumpy at anchor but the fish were definitely there and chewing steadily for the first 90 minutes of our trip. Culled 3 keepers to 4# among dozens of other fish but not the Trophy Nader was seeking.

Moved east to a very shallow drop near Racerock that was hot 2 weeks ago. Once again, a very steady bite developed quickly where we boxed one more keeper, same size, and threw back a couple more legal fish leaving room for the anticipated big boy we were certain would appear on the next drop.

Finished up on a 40’ drop further north with another very steady bite. Although Nader did catch a 5.5# Tog and we filled our limit, Mr. Big proved to be elusive today. Nevertheless, any day when you can enjoy a steady bite all day, box your limit, and finish the day throwing back keepers is still a good one in my book.

Water temps are finally starting to drop so I will start working some deeper spots on upcoming charters. Perhaps that will yield some of those heart stopping Blackfish we all live for at this time of year!

Still 3 weekend days left, 11/20,21 and 27 and a few weekdays but it is time to act fast as my Tog season will come to a close at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving weekend. Give me a shout if you want to get out.
