Sorry for the late report but I have been jammed up with charters 4 of the last 6 days plus a recreational trip in the middle for a group of my Consulting customers on the Orient Star Thursday evening.
Last Sunday found the Ray party out for a half day Sea Bass action in the Sound. Conditions were a little bouncy with the NE wind vs. the tide but the guys toughed it out and put together a nice catch of a dozen keepers to 3 #.
Tuesday was an all-day trip to Montauk for the Rich party looking for Fluke. Action was pretty consistent most of the day although we did not find any trophy fish that day. Made several drops between Frisbees and Outer Cartwright and managed a dozen Fluke to 4.5# for the box plus 9 nice Sea Bass to 3# to round things out. I guess Rich had a good time as once we hit the dock, he quickly gave me another deposit for a Tog trip this fall.
Wednesday found the Spyro group looking to mix it up in the bay for a half day. We started with the very reliable summer Weakfish bite and boxed 4 keepers to 3.5# while playing C&R with another 20 fish for 90 minutes effort on the flood. Then we dropped the anchor and the chum pot and had the Scup flying over the rails for the last 2 hours of the trip.
Thursday evening found Capt. Dan at the helm of the Orient Star and I was just a happy “tag along”, while my Consulting customers wailed on the Blues with about a dozen short Bass mixed in for good measure. The guys really held their own in sea conditions that were not pleasant with a steady 20 kt. SW breeze.
Back to my vessel Friday morning for a half day for Jonathan’s group looking for a bottom trip. Sea Bass fishing was tough with the approaching full moon and swift tides but we managed to put 4 keepers in the box. Then, we shifted over to the Sluiceway for Porgies and had the rods bending for the balance of the trip.
Obviously, we will all be tied to the dock with the upcoming storm Hope everyone remains safe and the churning ocean settles down quickly so we can get back to the tail end of our Fluke season offshore.
Don’t forget, Sept. 1 the Sea Bass Bag limit goes to 7 pp. The perfect time to book a half day trip and fill your freezer!
