Captains Table Breaking in the Kids

I was forced to postpone my weekend Fluke Charters due to the persistent East winds. However, managed to pick up a half day afternoon trip in the Bay for Sunday. Max, his son, and 3 grandchildren joined me of a fun afternoon of non-stop action.

First drop was near Shelter Island for a consistent pick of the typical summer smorgasbord. Medium to even a few jumbo-sized Porgies, plus small Sea Bass, a couple of keeper Kingish and a few Blowfish all found the box in about a 3-hour flurry.

We changed over to Weakfish for the last hour of the trip and the flood tide continued to produce nice quantities of fish with nearly 15 boated for only one hour’s effort. Only trouble was here were all sub legal fish with the largest only reaching 15” on the table before being released. Hopefully as the waters start to cool off again, we will see a resurgence of keeper Weaks as we did last fall.

Weather looks a little changeable this week and weekend but I am planning at least one more charter trip to Montauk next week. Then it will be mainly a Sea Bass diet the bag limit opens up to 7pp on Wednesday. Naturally we will also do some local Striper and Bluefishing on demand.

Give me a shout if you want to fill your freezer. Tight lines.
