Captains Table "Busman's Holiday"

My client for Friday’s charter had to postpone last minute and I was not going to let a perfect ocean fishing day go to waste. So, I grabbed my neighbor and we headed east for the south side of Montauk.

Started at the 70’ drops that produced all of our catch on last Saturday’s charter and while the fish were still present the numbers were off a little. Still with a good 3.5-hour effort we managed to easily fill our Sea Bass limit to 3# and also add 3 keeper Fluke to 5# to the box. Threw back several more short Fluke but was looking for something larger.

So, with about 90 minutes left to our day I headed further south to Cartwright for the first time this season. On a deep drop that has produced well for me over the years we found 4 more keepers to 7# along with a few more shorts. So, final tally for the day was just one Fluke short of the 2-man limit to join our Sea Bass collection. Plenty of top quality filets went into my freezer following this trip.

August is prime time to fish Montauk if a big Fluke is your goal and dates are going fast. The only weekend dates remaining are 8/15,21,22. Give me a call if you are looking for a shot at some of the best Fluke fishing LI has to offer.
