Captains Table Charter Season Begins

Began our charter season today with the Rich party of his friends and family. They specifically wanted to concentrate on a “freezer filler” trip and the spring Peconic Scup did not disappoint. Only needed 2 drops to produce more than enough fish to satisfy the group with nearly non-stop action and the top Porgies approaching the 3# class.

The steady, chilly east wind in the early morning did not dampen the bite at all as we found a quiet spot to fish in the lee to start off. Our second drop on the west side of Jessups Neck found even larger fish while the sun gained strength and the wind backed down to make the last 2 hours of the trip downright beautiful. Of course, we also began the annual “Heartbreak Sea Bass” part of the year as we started to catch some beautiful keeper sized fish that must be returned until late June.

Everyone went home with a nice mix of filet, and whole Porgies slated for a mix of different and delicious fish dinners.

Amazingly I still have one weekend left (5/22,23) for my spring special of a 6-hour trip for the cost of a half day trip, just $400. With the “Peconic Pork Chop” bite catching fire, now is the time to load up at the most reasonable rate all year. Give me a call if you want to get out.
